PBF‐LB/M of Ti‐6Al‐4V: High‐Pressure Solution Treatment and Aging for Applications in a Sustainable Aerospace

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
Additive manufacturing (AM) allows great geometric freedom for lightweight components. As parts are progressively optimized exploiting potentials in AM leading in smaller material cross sections, high pressure solution treating and aging (STA) treatments show an enormous potential for strongly improving material properties.

Electrospun polyvinyl alcohol/carbon dioxide modified polyethyleneimine composite nanofiber scaffolds [PDF]

open access: yes, 2014
A novel biocompatible polyvinyl alcohol/carbon dioxide modified polyethyleneimine (PVA/PEI-CO2) composite nanofiber was fabricated by a green and facile protocol, which reduces the cytotoxicity of PEI through the surface modification of the PEI with CO2.

Morphological Characteristics of Weed Seed Fibers

open access: yesWeed & Turfgrass Science, 2014
In this study, to obtain basic data for searching potential resources as new natural fibers, we investigated morphological and classificatory characteristics of 21 weed seed fibers. According to classification keys in this study, the collected weed seed fibers could be classified into total 13 types, showing their diversity.

Enhanced Gamma Radiation Shielding Using Epoxy Quartz Fabric Composites Reinforced With CoCl2 Microparticles

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
The growing demand for lightweight, nontoxic, and multifunctional gamma shielding materials has intensified efforts to find alternatives to conventional lead and aluminum‐based protectants. In this work, we develop epoxy quartz fabric composites reinforced with cobalt chloride (CoCl2) microparticles, fabricated via hand lay‐up with varying filler ...

Tribological properties of graphite-fiber-reinforced, partially fluorinated polyimide composites [PDF]

open access: yes
Graphite-fiber-reinforced polyimide (GFRPI) composites were formulated from three new partially fluorinated polyimides and three types of graphite fiber. Nine composites were molded into pins and evaluated in a pin-on-disk tribometer.

High cycle fatigue of ARMCO iron severely deformed by ECAP [PDF]

open access: yes, 2017
The high-cycle fatigue behavior of ARMCO iron severely deformed by Equal Channel Angular Pressing (ECAP) at room temperature through route Bc until 8 passes, with an average grain size of ~365 nm, was studied and compared with the same material in the ...

Piezoresistive Monitoring of Carbon Nanomaterial‐Reinforced Epoxy Composites Under Cyclic and Fatigue Loading: A Review

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
Carbon nanomaterial‐reinforced epoxy composites exhibit pronounced piezoresistive behavior, enabling intrinsic damage sensing under cyclic and fatigue loading. This review critically compares carbon nanotube and graphene systems, correlating filler content, percolation threshold, and gauge factor with sensing stability and damage evolution.

Thermomechanical Fatigue and Creep–Fatigue Interaction of Inconel 718 Additively Manufactured by Laser Beam Powder Bed Fusion

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
Thermomechanical fatigue tests of laser beam powder bed fusion (PBF‐LB) Inconel 718 show that the additively manufactured material reaches almost the lifetimes of conventionally‐rolled material under no‐dwell conditions. Introducing dwell times at the maximum temperature markedly reduces the lifetimes due to pronounced grain boundary sliding associated
