Plastic optical fiber technology

SPIE Proceedings, 2000
We discuss plastic optical fiber technology in the context of its relationship to glass optical fiber technology. POF technology serves as a low cost way to investigate innovative optical fiber material structures. POFs offer some application advantages, especially in low cost broad bandwidth easily interconnected local area networks.

Photopolymerized Optical Fiber Technology

2007 9th International Conference on Transparent Optical Networks, 2007
A method of formation of oligoetheracrylate photo-solidified fibers is proposed. The solidification process is performed by UV-nanosecond 337 nm nitrogen laser. Using different profiles of the light masque the optical fibers with the operated birefringence are formed with averaged diameter about 80- 100 mum.

Fiber-optic interconnect technologies

Optical Interconnects XX, 2020
Various fiber-optic connectors have been developed during the 40 years since optical fiber communications systems were first put into practical use. During the first two decades, as the domain of optical fiber communication systems expanded from trunk lines to subscriber lines and customer premises, the main focus changed from performance improvement ...

OFDM-PON optical fiber access technologies

SPIE Proceedings, 2011
The introduction of OFDM into PON networks is to leverage the merits of OFDM to provide the flexibility and reduce the cost. In this paper, we present our latest works on OFDM-PON. Firstly, we propose and demonstrate a novel OFDM-PON upstream transmission architecture with traffic aggregation by orthogonal band multiplexing.

Foundations of optical fiber technology

1995
An optical fiber is a strand of dielectric material which can trap optical radiation at one end and guide it to the other. Normally, the fiber consists of at least two optically dissimilar materials, as shown in a generalized manner in Fig. 2.1. These materials are arranged so that one material, called the cladding, completely surrounds the other.

Fiber optic sensors and optical sensing technology

2016 International Conference on Electrical, Electronics, and Optimization Techniques (ICEEOT), 2016
In this paper, we discuss about fiber optical sensors, its working principle and a standard test method of evaluating the measurement performance of distributed sensors such as Brillouin scattering based fiber optic sensors (FOSs) and other sensors for monitoring strain is proposed.

Silica optical fibers: technology update

SPIE Proceedings, 1995
Silica-core optical fibers have long been the standard delivery medium for medical laser delivery systems. Their high strength, excellent flexibility, and low cost continue to make them the fiber of choice for systems operating from 300 to 2200 nm. An overview of the current fiber constructions available to the industry is reviewed.

Optical fiber amplification technology

Annales Des Télécommunications, 2003
This part aims at giving keys to understand why erbium-doped fiber amplifiers (edfa) have revolutionized signal transmission techniques and how they can complement with Raman amplification in next generation systems. A first part is dedicated to physics basics ofedfa followed by the description of the system requirements for both terrestrial and ...

Lab on Fiber Technology Enables Nanophotonics Within Optical Fibers

2013
We report on a reliable fabrication process enabling the integration of dielectric and metallic nanostructures on the tip of optical fibers. The proposed fabrication procedure involves conventional deposition and nanopatterning techniques, typically used for planar devices, but here adapted to directly operate on optical fiber tip.

Optical Fiber and Preform Profiling Technology

IEEE Transactions on Microwave Theory and Techniques, 1982
A comprehensive review of state-of-the-art optical fiber and preform index-profiling methods has been prepared. The advantages and disadvantages of the various approaches are discussed. Important parameters include measurement accuracy, resolution, simplicity, and the nondestructive features of some methods.
