Tumour–host interactions in Drosophila: mechanisms in the tumour micro‐ and macroenvironment

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
This review examines how tumour–host crosstalk takes place at multiple levels of biological organisation, from local cell competition and immune crosstalk to organism‐wide metabolic and physiological collapse. Here, we integrate findings from Drosophila melanogaster studies that reveal conserved mechanisms through which tumours hijack host systems to ...

A scatterer-assisted whispering-gallery-mode microprobe

open access: yesNanophotonics, 2018
A fiber-based whispering-gallery-mode (WGM) microprobe, combining both the high optical field enhancement of the WGMs and the compact structure of the optical fiber, is highly desired for sensing and imaging.

Genetic attenuation of ALDH1A1 increases metastatic potential and aggressiveness in colorectal cancer

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Aldehyde dehydrogenase 1A1 (ALDH1A1) is a cancer stem cell marker in several malignancies. We established a novel epithelial cell line from rectal adenocarcinoma with unique overexpression of this enzyme. Genetic attenuation of ALDH1A1 led to increased invasive capacity and metastatic potential, the inhibition of proliferation activity, and ultimately ...

Investigation of a Side-polished Fiber MZI and Its Sensing Performance [PDF]

open access: yes, 2020
A novel all-fiber Mach–Zehnder interferometer (MZI), which consists of lateral core fusion splicing of a short section of side-polished single mode fiber (SMF) between two SMFs was proposed and demonstrated.

Extremely High-Efficiency Coupling Method for Hollow-Core Photonic Crystal Fiber

open access: yesIEEE Photonics Journal, 2017
We report a novel low-loss splicing approach for hollow-core photonic crystal fiber (HC-PCF) and conventional single mode fiber (SMF) by inserting an etched SMF tip into the hollow core.

Optical Fiber Sensor for Curvature and Temperature Measurement Based on Anti-Resonant Effect Cascaded with Multimode Interference

open access: yesSensors, 2022
In this paper, a novel inline optical fiber sensor for curvature and temperature measurement simultaneously has been proposed and demonstrated, which can measure two parameters with very little crosstalk.

Low-Cost High-Sensitivity Strain and Temperature Sensing Using Graded-Index Multimode Fibers [PDF]

open access: yes, 2007
We report a low-loss, low-cost high-sensitivity all-fiber strain and temperature sensor based on mode interference in graded-index multimode fibers. Blueshifts with strain and temperature sensitivities of 18.6 pm/microstrain and 58.5 pm/°C have been ...

RIPK4 function interferes with melanoma cell adhesion and metastasis

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
RIPK4 promotes melanoma growth and spread. RIPK4 levels increase as skin lesions progress to melanoma. CRISPR/Cas9‐mediated deletion of RIPK4 causes melanoma cells to form less compact spheroids, reduces their migratory and invasive abilities and limits tumour growth and dissemination in mouse models.

Optical microfibers and nanofibers

open access: yesNanophotonics, 2013
As a combination of fiber optics and nanotechnology, optical microfibers and nanofibers (MNFs) have been emerging as a novel platform for exploring fiber-optic technology on the micro/nanoscale.

Engineered extracellular vesicles enriched with the miR‐214/199a cluster enhance the efficacy of chemotherapy in ovarian cancer

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Loss of the miR‐214/199a cluster is associated with recurrence in ovarian cancer. Engineered small extracellular vesicles (m214‐sEVs) elevate miR‐214‐3p/miR‐199a‐5p in tumor cells, suppress β‐catenin, TLR4, and YKT6 signaling, reprogram tumor‐derived sEV cargo, reduce chemoresistance and migration, and enhance carboplatin efficacy and survival in ...
