SPIE Proceedings, 1985
An interest in optical communications was created in 1960 with the discovery of the laser1. The initial activity concentrated on experiments using atmospheric optical channels, since early optical fibers had extremely large losses of more than 1000 dB/km which made them appear impractical.

Optical Fiber Communication, 1984
Analog modulation appears attractive for fiber-optic transmission and distribution of single-channel and multichannel broadband and TV signals. While use of digital techniques is expected to grow beyond long-distance links, analog fiber systems are simple and compatible with existing distribution methods.

Optical fiber connection system including optical fiber alignment device
2019A self-centering structure (300) for aligning optical fibers (308) desired to be optically coupled together is disclosed. The self-centering structure (300) including a body (310) having a first end (312) and a second end (314). The first end (312) defines a first opening (303) and the second end (314) defines a second opening (304). The self-centering

Optical Fiber Communication Systems
2010Extremely high bandwidth and frequency, existence of two polarization modes and usage of optical amplifiers are key features in long-haul digital optical fiber communication. Considering this, systems with various modulation formats, with direct and coherent detection are described.
