Effect of fiber orientation on fiber wetting processes
Journal of Colloid and Interface Science, 2004The current work incorporates a microscopic study of the effect of fiber orientation on the fiber wetting process and flow of liquid droplets along filter fibers when subjected to airflow and gravity forces. Glass filter fibers in various combinations were oriented at various angles within a plane defined by the airflow direction and were supplied with

Behavior of discontinuous fiber composites: Fiber orientation
Polymer Composites, 1982AbstractThe behavior of polymeric materials reinforced by discontinuous. Descriptors for the planar and axial orientation distributions are discussed. Predictions of micromechanical models and experimental data are presented to illustrate the influence of orientation state upon elastic constants, thermal coefficients of expansion and tensile strength ...

Collagen Fiber Orientation Affects Osteoclastic Resorption
Journal of Dental Research, 2001The bone surrounding the teeth is constantly re-modeled throughout life, particularly during tooth movement and following tooth loss. Alveolar bone proper contains many highly oriented extrinsic fibers, but whether their orientation affects resorption is unknown.

High fidelity fiber orientation density functions from fiber ball imaging
NMR in Biomedicine, 2021The fiber orientation density function (fODF) in white matter is a primary physical quantity that can be estimated with diffusion MRI. It has often been employed for fiber tracking and microstructural modeling. Requirements for the construction of high fidelity fODFs, in the sense of having good angular resolution, adequate data to avoid sampling ...

Packing and orientation of fiber cells
Experimental Eye Research, 1971Sections of bovine lenses were exposed to a continuous He-Ne gas laser and the low-angle scattering was studied. Diffraction patterns resulted and repeat distances were calculated for various parts of the lens. The repeat distance decreased as one proceeded from the cortex into the nucleus.

MR Color Mapping of Myelin Fiber Orientation
Journal of Computer Assisted Tomography, 1991Diffusion of water in brain white matter has been shown to be anisotropic: Water mobility is lower when measured perpendicular to the fiber direction rather than parallel to it. This feature was used to produce images of the myelin fiber orientation.

Fiber Orientation Control of Short Fiber Composites: Experiment
Journal of Composite Materials, 1989Orientation control of short fibers in a liquid matrix has been carried out by loading a magnetic field. Nickel coated graphite short fiber was used as a magnetic inductive fiber. From a practical point of view, main attention was placed upon the determination of the critical volume fraction of the fibers Vfc , which was the maximum value at which the

Fiber orientation evolution in simple shear flow from a repeatable initial fiber orientation
Journal of Non-Newtonian Fluid Mechanics, 2016Abstract Experimental fiber evolution data from a rheometer can be used to determine material parameters in fiber orientation models independent from processing flows. The Folgar–Tucker orientation model was demonstrated in simple shear flow to predict distinctly different trends in the orientation evolution depending on the initial fiber orientation.

Characterization of fiber orientation in short-fiber composites
Journal of Applied Physics, 1984A method for measuring intermediate states of fiber orientation in short-fiber composites is described. The technique is based on the observation that a representative fiber distribution, for example, the negative of a photomicrograph from a specimen, resembles a collection of diffraction apertures.

Measurement of fiber orientation in short-fiber composites
Acta Metallurgica et Materialia, 1994Abstract The degree of fiber orientation in short-fiber composites plays an important role in determining many properties of these materials. In order to predict the toughening of a composite by using fiber reinforcements, we must consider the orientation of fibers as described probabilistically by the distribution function f(ψ), where ψ is the angle
