Measurement of Fiber Orientation

Textile Research Journal, 1951
A method is described for estimating the extent of fiber orientation in lap, sliver, etc., thus making possible a quantitative evaluation of the effectiveness of carding and drawing operations in aligning the fibers. In principle, the method involves clamping the sample in a special device, cutting out a section of fixed length ( e.g., 1/2 in.), and ...

The mechanical properties of oriented discontinuous fiber‐reinforced thermoplastics. I. Unidirectional fiber orientation

Polymer Engineering & Science, 1974
AbstractThe mechanical properties of a series of thermoplastics reinforced with unidirectionally oriented short fibers are reported. Both organic and inorganic fiber reinforcements were used in fiber volume fractions of 0.10 to 0.50. A number of these composites were found to have excellent strength and stiffness properties combined with good toughness

Shear induced fiber orientation, fiber breakage and matrix molecular orientation in long glass fiber reinforced polypropylene composites

Materials Science and Engineering: A, 2011
Abstract Long fiber reinforcement is well known to offer thermoplastic materials with high performances. But little work has been done to systematically investigate the effect of shear on the structures and properties of long glass fiber reinforced thermoplastics.

FIBER ORIENTATION DETECTION ON FIBER REINFORCED POLYMERS MOULDED WITH RANDOMLY-ORIENTED STRANDS

2017
Composite materials (CM) are been used more and more every day in several applications, especially in aeronautic structures where complex shaped parts are highly demanded. The arrangement or orientation of the fibers relative to one another, the fiber concentration, and the distribution all have a significant influence on the strength and other ...
