Compatibility of Methacrylate Based Resins Controls Interfacial Failure and Toughness in 3D‐Printed Multimaterial Composites

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
This work shows that the mechanical performance of multimaterial digital light processing (DLP) printed thermoset composites is governed by resin compatibility and interfacial design rather than spatial patterning alone. Brittle and ductile resin combinations produced premature interfacial failure, while graded interfaces and mechanically compatible ...

Experimental and Numerical Modal Analysis of Composite Sandwich Structures Using Surfboards as Model Systems

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
This article presents an experimental and numerical modal investigation of composite sandwich structures using surfboards as model systems. By comparing different core materials and reinforcement strategies, the study demonstrates how local stiffeners influence vibrational response and introduce characteristic modal features, highlighting modal ...

Defect Evolution and Mechanical Performance of Fused Filament Fabrication‐Manufactured 17‐4PH Stainless Steel Revealed by X‐Ray Computed Tomography

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
X‐ray computed tomography reveals how process‐induced defects evolve from green to sintered states in Fused Filament Fabrication (FFF)‐manufactured 17‐4PH stainless steel. Internal porosity, weakest cross‐sections, and fracture locations show strong correlation with tensile performance, demonstrating the potential of computed tomography (CT)‐based ...

Micro-mechanical predictive modelling as an aid to CAD based analysis of composite sporting equipment

open access: yes, 2008
The sport and leisure industry in New Zealand (NZ) has the potential to become a major user of composite materials. Given the size of NZ industry, design and manufacturing strategies based on virtual engineering should be developed to suit NZ ...

Active Corrosion Protection of Sintered AA7075 Aluminum Alloy via Mn Powder Addition

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
AA7075 containing Mn‐rich particles is fabricated via spark plasma sintering using AA7075 and Mn powders. Corrosion resistance is evaluated through dip‐and‐dry tests using 0.1 M NaCl (pH 6.0), and mass loss decreases with increasing Mn addition. Mn‐rich particles function as a source of Mn ions, and formation of Mn‐accumulation films on Cu‐containing ...

The Effect of Non-Dental E-Glass Fiber Position on the Flexural Strength of Fiber Reinforced Composite

open access: yesCakradonya Dental Journal
Fixed denture is a treatment used to replace missing teeth. Fiber Reinforced Composite using dental E-glass fiber is an alternative material due to its biocompatibility, good aesthetics, and adaptability to the oral cavity. However in Indonesia, its ...

Stretching the Printability Metric in Direct‐Ink Writing with Highly Extensible Yield‐Stress Fluids

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
This study introduces “drawability” as a new metric for assessing printability in direct‐ink writing, focusing on gap‐spanning performance and speed robustness. By designing yield‐stress fluids with high extensibility, we demonstrate that extensional strain‐to‐break significantly enhances printability.

The effect of specimen thickness on the shock propagation along the in-fibre direction of an aerospace-grade CFRP laminate [PDF]

open access: yes, 2009
In-fibre measurements of the Hugoniot have been carried out on a carbon fibre-reinforced polymer composite. For this material, we have shown at high shock stresses, a two component wave was formed consisting of a fast moving ramped portion and a slower ...

An emerging class of 3D GNPs&MWCNTs structure of Mg matrix composites with improved thermal conductivity

open access: yesJournal of Magnesium and Alloys
Graphene nanoplates (GNPs) and carbon nanotubes (CNTs) can construct efficient thermal flux channels in composites, which is becoming one of the effective methods to improve thermal conductivity (TC) of composites.
