Mechanical Properties of Natural Fiber Composite Made of Indonesian Grown Sisal [PDF]

open access: yes, 2016
Sisal fiber is one of the most widely used natural fibers and is very easily to be cultivated. Sisal is considered to be indigenous to central and south America.

Innovative Processing of Compacted Waste Aluminum Alloy Powders via Controlled Remelting and Solidification

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
This study demonstrates an efficient recycling route for out‐of‐spec AlSi10Mg atomized powders through compaction and arc remelting followed by suction casting. By correlating compaction load, cooling rate, and resulting microstructure, we show that intermediate pressures (50–80 kN) and rapid cooling refine dendrites, reduce porosity, and enhance ...

Characterization of Nitinol Produced by Laser Powder Bed Fusion for Mechanical Metamaterial Applications

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
Stabilization of L‐PBF Ni50.7Ti49.3 under low‐cycle loading was investigated. Recoverable strain after cycling was dependent on the amount of applied load. Recovery ratio was 53.4% and 35.1% at intermediate and high load, respectively. The maximum total strain reached 10.3% at a high load of 1200 MPa.

A Numerical–Experimental Approach for Multi‐Matrix Fiber‐Reinforced Plastics Characterization Using Finite Element Model Updating

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
A numerical–experimental framework is developed for characterizing multi‐matrix fiber‐reinforced polymers (MM‐FRPs) combining epoxy and polyurethane matrices. Harmonic bending tests are integrated with finite element model updating (FEMU) to simultaneously identify elastic and viscoelastic material parameters.

Prompting Interfacial Elastic Instability for Effective and Durable Icephobic Surfaces

open access: yesAdvanced Science
Icephobic surfaces offer a passive protection strategy against icing hazards in industrial applications. However, the improvement of surface icephobicity is normally accompanied by a compromise in mechanical properties and restrains the practical ...

Unveiling the wear mechanisms of Resin-Based composites through debris Diagnostics: The critical role of microstructure and friction film formation

open access: yesMaterials & Design
The efficacy and reliability of commercial passenger vehicle brake linings are critical for driving safety. Most existing research, however, focuses on lab-formulated materials, creating a knowledge gap regarding commercial products.

Composite production by pressure infiltration [PDF]

open access: yes, 2008
This paper presents the possibility of composite block production by using pressure infiltration technology. This method uses the pressure of an inert gas (usually argon or nitrogen) to force the melted matrix material to infiltrate the reinforcing ...

Thermomechanical Fatigue and Creep–Fatigue Interaction of Inconel 718 Additively Manufactured by Laser Beam Powder Bed Fusion

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
Thermomechanical fatigue tests of laser beam powder bed fusion (PBF‐LB) Inconel 718 show that the additively manufactured material reaches almost the lifetimes of conventionally‐rolled material under no‐dwell conditions. Introducing dwell times at the maximum temperature markedly reduces the lifetimes due to pronounced grain boundary sliding associated

Collaborative enhancement of thermal diffusivities and mechanical properties of Csf-Cu/Mg composites via introducing Cu coating with different thicknesses

open access: yesJournal of Magnesium and Alloys
Mg alloy matrix composites reinforced with short carbon fibers (Csf/Mg) are considered as potential candidates for integrated structural-functional electronic parts that satisfy the requirements of lightweight, excellent mechanical properties, and heat ...
