Optimisation of plastic injection moulding parameters for biopolymer composite using Taguchi L9 method and mould flow analysis

open access: yesResults in Materials
The production of bio-polymer composites through the injection moulding process often results in defects that can compromise product quality, especially when optimal parameters are not used for new materials.

Path-Dependent Progressive Failure Analysis for 3D-Printed Continuous Carbon Fibre Reinforced Composites

open access: yesChinese Journal of Mechanical Engineering
In order to predict the damage behaviours of 3D-printed continuous carbon fibre (CCF) reinforced composites, when additional short carbon fibre (SCF) composite components are employed for continuous printing or special functionality, a novel path ...

Rate dependent non-linear mechanical behaviour of continuous fibre-reinforced thermoplastic composites – Experimental characterisation and viscoelastic-plastic damage modelling

open access: yesMaterials & Design, 2020
The presented work contains both a detailed rate dependent experimental characterisation and the development of a viscoelastic-plastic damage model for the mechanical behaviour of continuous fibre-reinforced thermoplastic composites (TPC).

Enhancing Fatigue Crack Growth Resistance in Heterostructured Aluminum Bimetals by Tailored Interface Design

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
Different Al/Al bimetals with a single engineered interface reveal how mechanical mismatch governs fatigue crack growth under cyclic loading. Additionally, loading–unloading–reloading tests link the microyielding behavior to the fatigue crack growth resistance, while crack‐path analysis reveals toughening mechanisms at the interface, highlighting ...

Achieving strong interfacial bonding of CFRP and magnesium alloy by modifying magnesium alloy surface via alkaline etching with EDTA addition

open access: yesJournal of Materials Research and Technology
The interfacial properties of fibre metal laminates are closely related to the surface microstructure of metals. Herein, a hitherto unreported honeycomb-like micro/nano-porous structure was successfully fabricated on an AZ31B Mg alloy surface by ...

Enhancement of Cantilever Beams with Fibre-Reinforcement Plastic

open access: yesChemical Engineering Transactions, 2018
This paper aims to design a feasible procedure of fibre-reinforcement plastic (FRP) enhancement. To this end, the author reviewed the development history of the FRP, and summarized the two common methods of FRP enhancement, namely, the embedded FRP enhancement and external bonding.

Superlubricity and Corrosion Inhibition Properties of Solvate Ionic Liquids in Hybrid Carbon Fiber Reinforced Plastic–Steel Interfaces

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
Solvate ionic liquids lubrication reduced the coefficient of friction by ∼60% compared to dry sliding, reaching steady‐state values as low as 0.04–0.05. Corrosion weight‐loss measurements in 1 M HCl further demonstrated significant inhibition behavior, with only 100 ppm of [Li(G3)][TFSI] (∼68.5 μL/L) reducing corrosion‐product weight loss by 63 ...

Stretching the Printability Metric in Direct‐Ink Writing with Highly Extensible Yield‐Stress Fluids

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
This study introduces “drawability” as a new metric for assessing printability in direct‐ink writing, focusing on gap‐spanning performance and speed robustness. By designing yield‐stress fluids with high extensibility, we demonstrate that extensional strain‐to‐break significantly enhances printability.
