Myelinated fibre diameters of human inferior alveolar nerves
Archives of Oral Biology, 1986These were examined in a series of 36 human post-mortem specimens. One unimodal, 32 bimodal and 1 trimodal diameter curves were demonstrated; group analysis of all samples gave a bimodal curve with 2-4 and 8-9 microns peaks.

Diameter-dependent melting behaviour in electrospun polymer fibres
Nanotechnology, 2010The melting temperature of individual electrospun polyethylene oxide (PEO) fibres was found using atomic force microscopy (AFM) topography imaging and nanomechanical measurements. The melting temperature of electrospun PEO fibres was observed to decrease with decreasing fibre diameter.

Birthcoat of lambs and adult fibre diameter
Australian Journal of Agricultural Research, 1956Birthcoat hairiness is significantly correlated with adult fibre diameter variability, the coarser birthcoats being more variable. Birthcoat grade is not correlated with average fibre diameter, but is strongly correlated with the difference between diameters of primary and secondary fibres and with variability of primary, but not of secondary, fibres ...

Orthogonal Diameters in the Analysis of Muscle Fibre Size and Form
Nature, 1963DISTRIBUTIONAL changes in sizes of fibres have been correlated with pathological processes affecting muscle. Micrometry of muscle fibres in histological cross-section, for example, has been frequently used to follow the course of denervation atrophy1.

The diameter and mean sarcomere length of individual muscle fibres
Life Sciences, 1975Abstract Studies of the coefficients of variation and the repeatibility of the measurements indicate that a sample of 25 fibres is sufficient to provide an accurate estimate of the mean fibre diameter and sarcomere length of a muscle. There is a significant negative correlation (−0.55) between the diameter and mean sarcomere length of an individual ...

Initial responses to selection for fibre value and fibre diameter in cashmere goats
Proceedings of the British Society of Animal Science, 1995The production of cashmere from goats is one of the most promising options for hill sheep farmers wishing to diversify. Not only is cashmere, the down from the secondary hair follicles, a valuable commodity but goats’ grazing preferences can benefit pasture management and ecology.

Relation between axial compressive strength of reinforcing fibres and fibre diameter
Journal of Materials Science, 1996Attempts were made to estimate the fibre axial compressive strength of pitch-based graphitized and polyarylate fibres, and the relationship between the compressive strength and fibre diameter was investigated. The estimated compressive strength of fibres decreases with increasing temperature.

Length, Diameter and Number of Ageing Skeletal Muscle Fibres
Gerontology, 2009The sternomastoid, biceps brachii and tibialis anterior muscles of ageing mice were compared with controls. The biceps brachii and tibialis anterior were lighter in the ageing mice and contained fewer fibres. There was also evidence of compensatory hypertrophy present.

Journal of the Textile Institute, 2008
Abstract In raw materials of dromedary hair, there are two distinct fibre populations: the fine one is of textile relevance and the coarse one is rather worthless and must be as a rule separated prior to spinning and subsequent processing. The paper reports an investigation into the effects of fibre passage sequence throughout the Shirley Analyser on ...
