This article reports a case of angiomatoid fibrous histiocytoma (AFH), a rare fibrous tissue tumor with unique clinical characteristics. Formerly, this tumor was classified as angiomatoid malignant fibrous histiocytoma. First described in 1979, AFH was felt to be a variant of malignant fibrous histiocytoma (MFH).

Fibrous Histiocytoma of the Trachea

A histologically benign but locally infiltrating tumor of histiocytes, fibrous histiocytoma, was found in the trachea of a 26-year-old man. Partial resection of the trachea afforded the successful removal of the growth with no evidence of recurrence or metastases 27 months after surgery. Pathology and prognostic aspects of the tumor are discussed.

MALIGNANT FIBROUS HISTIOCYTOMA

Seven cases of malignant fibrous histiocytoma are reported. Two patients had tumour involving the scrotum and small‐gut mesentery, which are unusual primary sites, while three others with pulmonary metastases are alive five years since the appearance of these metastases.
