Biomechanics of a bone-periodontal ligament-tooth fibrous joint. [PDF]

open access: greenJ Biomech, 2013
This study investigates bone-tooth association under compression to identify strain amplified sites within the bone-periodontal ligament (PDL)-tooth fibrous joint. Our results indicate that the biomechanical response of the joint is due to a combinatorial response of the constitutive properties of organic, inorganic, and fluid components.

Degenerative joint disease in the temporomandibular joint with fibrous ankylosis in a rhesus macaque (Macaca mulatta) [PDF]

open access: diamondLaboratory Animal Research, 2020
Background Ankylosis in the temporomandibular joint (TMJ) is known to have various etiologies in veterinary medicine. We observed a case of fibrous ankylosis of the TMJ in a newly imported rhesus monkey (Macaca mulatta).

The Fibrous Structure of the Bolt and Its Effect on the Joint Reliability [PDF]

open access: diamondArchives of Metallurgy and Materials, 2021
The use of cold forging is a widely used solution in many industries. One application is the manufacture of bolts and fasteners. The largest amounts of bolts are used in the automotive and machine industry.

The plastic nature of the human bone-periodontal ligament-tooth fibrous joint. [PDF]

open access: greenBone, 2013
This study investigates bony protrusions within a narrowed periodontal ligament space (PDL-space) of a human bone-PDL-tooth fibrous joint by mapping structural, biochemical, and mechanical heterogeneity. Higher resolution structural characterization was achieved via complementary atomic force microscopy (AFM), nano-transmission X-ray microscopy (nano ...

An Unusual Case of Fibrous Dysplasia, Temporomandibular Joint Ankylosis, and Eagle's Syndrome. [PDF]

open access: goldCureus
Fibrous dysplasia is a benign bone disease in children and young adults. This is characterized by the replacement of normal bone with fibrous tissue along with immature woven bone. Fibrous dysplasia is a rare disorder and has variable presentations that pose challenges in diagnosis and treatment. Decisions are made on a case-by-case basis, depending on

Inhibition of fibrous adhesion formation in the temporomandibular joint of tenascin-C knockout mice

open access: goldEuropean Journal of Histochemistry, 2014
Tenascin-C (TNC) is a large hexameric extracellular matrix glycoprotein that is expressed in developing organs and tumors. It has been reported that TNC is expressed in inflamed synovial membranes and deformed discs of temporomandibular joint (TMJ ...

Differences in the biological properties of mesenchymal stromal cells from traumatic temporomandibular joint fibrous and bony ankylosis: a comparative study [PDF]

open access: goldAnimal Cells and Systems, 2021
The aim of this study was to compare the functional characteristics of mesenchymal stromal cells (MSCs) from a sheep model of traumatic temporomandibular joint (TMJ) fibrous and bony ankylosis.

Intra‐articular fibrous bands at the tibiotalar joint: diagnosis and outcomes of arthroscopic removal in 4 ankles [PDF]

open access: goldJournal of Experimental Orthopaedics, 2021
The authors retrieved the records of 4 patients that exhibited unusual structural anomalies or pathologies, notably the presence of a fibrous band at the anterior aspect of the tibiotalar joint, observed during arthroscopic exploration or treatment ...

Elastic discontinuity due to ectopic calcification in a human fibrous joint [PDF]

open access: greenActa Biomaterialia, 2012
Disease can alter natural ramp-like elastic gradients to steeper step-like profiles at soft-hard tissue interfaces. Prolonged function can further mediate mechanochemical events that alter biomechanical response within diseased organs. In this study, a human bone-tooth fibrous joint was chosen as a model system, in which the effects of bacterial ...

Functional Adaptation of LPS‐affected Dentoalveolar Fibrous Joints in Rats [PDF]

open access: greenJournal of Periodontal Research, 2021
AbstractIntroductionThe functional interplay between cementum of the root and alveolar bone of the socket is tuned by a uniquely positioned 70–80 µm wide fibrous and lubricious ligament in a dentoalveolar joint (DAJ). In this study, structural and biomechanical properties of the DAJ, periodontal ligament space (PDL‐space also known as the joint space),
