Interaction of stress and growth in a fibrous tissue
Journal of Theoretical Biology, 1988The influence of stress on the growth and remodeling of a soft biological tissue is considered. For this purpose, the soft tissue is idealized as a fiber network. The stress-free lengths of the fibers composing the network are not fixed as in an inert elastic solid, but are assumed to evolve as a result of growth and stress adaptation.

Fibromatosis is the name given to a locally aggressive fibrous tissue tumour which grows slowly and infiltrates locally but does not metastasise. It may cause morbidity and even death due to local infiltration which is difficult to control surgically. The condition is best categorised as a less aggressive form of fibrosarcoma.
