Maxillofacial Reconstruction Using Vascularized Fibula Free Flaps and Endosseous Implants.
Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery Clinics of North America, 2019Maxillofacial subunit reconstruction using vascularized fibula free flap and endosseous implants is a complex and exciting topic. Use of this technique has profoundly improved patients' function, form, and quality of life. This article outlines the goals

The notes and radiographs of 281 adult tibial shaft fractures were reviewed. In 17 per cent there was an intact fibula. Delayed union rates were lower when the fibula remained intact, thus confirming that this is a good prognostic indicator. This fracture is caused by less severe trauma than fractures where both bones are broken.

Anatomic reduction and fixation of unstable ankle fractures is necessary to prevent posttraumatic arthritis. Malunion of the distal fibula in unstable ankle fractures may lead to progressive talar instability. Ankle fracture malunions often present with concomitant syndesmotic widening, which can cause surgeons to overlook changes in fibula length and ...

Fibula holding forceps for free fibula harvest
European Journal of Plastic Surgery, 2009We describe an instrument which holds both ends of osteotomized fibula simultaneously during the free fibula harvest. This instrument has advantages over conventional instruments in that it can be held by only one hand of the assistant and does not slip from the ends of fibula.

Survival of dental implants placed in vascularised fibula free flaps after jaw reconstruction.
Journal of cranio-maxillo-facial surgery : official publication of the European Association for Cranio-Maxillo-Facial Surgery, 2018PURPOSE Ablative oncological surgery to treat head-and-neck cancer often triggers a requirement for jaw reconstruction. Modern surgical procedures using free microvascular flaps afford acceptable outcomes in terms of restoration of bony and soft tissue ...

Comparison of Locking Versus Nonlocking Plates for Distal Fibula Fractures
Journal of Foot and Ankle Surgery, 2018Locking plates might offer a biomechanical fixation advantage for distal fibula fractures with comminution or osteoporotic bone. In January 2011, our unit introduced a bone‐specific locking plate for the distal fibula. The aim of the present study was to
