プソラレンの植物生育阻害作用につき水稲種子(農林17号)を用いて検討を行ったが,その発芽抑制作用はプソラレン濃度の増加につれて抑制作用は大きくなり,しかも芽部よりも根部に対し強く作用している.これらの現象は呼吸阻害によるものと思われ,その要因の1つはカタラーゼ,パーオキシダーゼ等の鉄ポルフィリン系呼吸酵素あるいはβ-アミラーゼ等の作用阻害にあるものと推定される.
