Handedness in Fiddler Crabs (Genus Uca) 1)
Crustaceana, 1966Die Entwicklung der Hande wurde an im Laboratorium gezuchteten Uca studiert. Bei jungen Mannchen, die sich entweder in der symmetrischen oder in der asymmetrischen Entwicklungsphase befanden, wurden die Chelipedien entfernt. Die Untersuchungsergebnisse sprechen fur die Annahme einer genetischen Basis der ,,Handigkeit" mannlicher Uca.

2017Carapace quadrate, transversely rectangular, pentagonal, markedly thick, dorsal surface moderately convex, smooth, regions weakly or never defined, lateral margins entire, without any dentation, junction between anterolateral and posterolateral margins not distinct. Front markedly narrow, straight, or very faintly bilobed, strongly deflexed.

Synchronous claw-waving of fiddler crabs
Animal Behaviour, 1958Abstract 1. 1. An ecological and behavioural study was made of the five Uca species of Inhaca Island. 2. 2. In addition to the claw-waving shown by males as a threat-display or as part of courtship behaviour, various modifications of the phenomenon of claw-waving were also noticed.
