A survey of the fine structure of the integument of the fiddler crab
Tissue and Cell, 1972Abstract The epidermis-exoskeleton complex in the fiddler crab is an organ consisting of cellular elements and a secreted cuticle. The epidermis is composed of a basement membrane, pigment cells, intraepidermal connective tissue and cuticled secreting cells. The latter two tissues undergo a morphologic cycle of decline and recrudescence correlated to

Accumulation of sediment-bound PCBs by fiddler crabs
Bulletin of Environmental Contamination and Toxicology, 1986The primary objective of this research was to characterize rates of PCB uptake and depuration by fiddler crabs in a simulated spoil bank habitat that contained PCBs in weathered sediment. Also, the authors examined whether the concentration of PCBs in substrates affected bioaccumulation by mixing PCB-laden sediments with clean sand.

Synchronous claw-waving of fiddler crabs
Animal Behaviour, 1958Abstract 1. 1. An ecological and behavioural study was made of the five Uca species of Inhaca Island. 2. 2. In addition to the claw-waving shown by males as a threat-display or as part of courtship behaviour, various modifications of the phenomenon of claw-waving were also noticed.
