Lords of the Square Ring: Future Capital and Career Transition Issues for Elite Indigenous Australian Boxers

open access: yesCosmopolitan Civil Societies: An Interdisciplinary Journal, 2010
In Australia a serious and widely documented statistical gap exists between the socio-economic circumstances of the country’s Indigenous and non-Indigenous populations. Areas of divergence include life expectancy, health, housing, income, and educational

Structural biology of ferritin nanocages

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Ferritin is a conserved iron‐storage protein that sequesters iron as a ferric mineral core within a nanocage, protecting cells from oxidative damage and maintaining iron homeostasis. This review discusses ferritin biology, structure, and function, and highlights recent cryo‐EM studies revealing mechanisms of ferritinophagy, cellular iron uptake, and ...

PARP inhibitors elicit distinct transcriptional programs in homologous recombination competent castration‐resistant prostate cancer

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
PARP inhibitors are used to treat a small subset of prostate cancer patients. These studies reveal that PARP1 activity and expression are different between European American and African American prostate cancer tissue samples. Additionally, different PARP inhibitors cause unique and overlapping transcriptional changes, notably, p53 pathway upregulation.

Globalization, Crop Choice and Property Rights in Rural Peru, 1994-2004 [PDF]

open access: yes
This paper describes the results of initial work analysing a panel of rural households in Peru between 1994 and 2004 to determine household responses to changes in relative prices of traditional versus export-oriented products. Our principal interest was

Economics, Biology, and Culture: Hodgson on History [PDF]

open access: yes, 2003
This book addresses what the author claims, with considerable justification, to be the foremost challenge confronting the social and behavioral sciences today: the problem of historical specificity.

Characterizing the salivary RNA landscape to identify potential diagnostic, prognostic, and follow‐up biomarkers for breast cancer

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
This study explores salivary RNA for breast cancer (BC) diagnosis, prognosis, and follow‐up. High‐throughput RNA sequencing identified distinct salivary RNA signatures, including novel transcripts, that differentiate BC from healthy controls, characterize histological and molecular subtypes, and indicate lymph node involvement.

Bridging the gap: Multi‐stakeholder perspectives of molecular diagnostics in oncology

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Although molecular diagnostics is transforming cancer care, implementing novel technologies remains challenging. This study identifies unmet needs and technology requirements through a two‐step stakeholder involvement. Liquid biopsies for monitoring applications and predictive biomarker testing emerge as key unmet needs. Technology requirements vary by

A comment on the paper `Coherence in Neutrino Oscillations' by C.Giunti. Either lepton flavour eigenstates or neutrino oscillations do not exist

open access: yes, 2003
The definition of `lepton flavour eigenstates' introduced in a recent paper hep-ph/0302045 is in disagreement with the Standard Model prediction for the structure of the leptonic charged current and implies the absence of neutrino oscillations following ...

State of the Art Review of Ageing of Bituminous Binders and Asphalt Mixtures: Ageing Simulation Techniques, Ageing Inhibitors and the Relationship between Simulated Ageing and Field Ageing

open access: yesInfrastructures
Asphalt mixtures age during service in the field, primarily as the result of chemical changes in the bituminous binder phase. The ageing phenomenon changes the properties of the asphalt mixture, including the stiffness modulus, the resistance to ...

Adenosine‐to‐inosine editing of miR‐200b‐3p is associated with the progression of high‐grade serous ovarian cancer

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
A‐to‐I editing of miRNAs, particularly miR‐200b‐3p, contributes to HGSOC progression by enhancing cancer cell proliferation, migration and 3D growth. The edited form is linked to poorer patient survival and the identification of novel molecular targets.
