How digitisation of herbaria reveals the botanical legacy of the First World War

open access: yesPLANTS, PEOPLE, PLANET, EarlyView.
Digitisation of herbarium collections is bringing greater understanding to bear on the complexity of narratives relating to the First World War and its aftermath – scientific and societal. Plant collecting during the First World War was more widespread than previously understood, contributed to the psychological well‐being of those involved and ...

Assessing Structural Classification Using AlphaFold2 Models Through ECOD‐Based Comparative Analysis

open access: yesProteins: Structure, Function, and Bioinformatics, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Identifying homologous proteins is a fundamental task in structural bioinformatics. While AlphaFold2 has revolutionized protein structure prediction, the extent to which structure comparison of its models can reliably detect homologs remains unclear.

Problem of Nonlinear Conductivity within Relaxation Time Approximation in Noncentrosymmetric Insulators

open access: yesphysica status solidi (b), EarlyView.
It is demonstrated that the relaxation time approximation (RTA) for the quantum kinetic equation, a simple method for describing nonequilibrium steady states, has a critical flaw in the longitudinal nonlinear DC conductivity of insulators under weak electric fields.

Controversial issues in crisis management. Bridging public policy and crisis management to better understand and address crises 危机管理中的争议性问题: 连接公共政策和危机管理以期更好地理解和应对危机 Cuestiones controvertidas en la gestión de crisis. Uniendo las políticas públicas y la gestión de crisis para comprender y abordar mejor las crisis

open access: yesRisk, Hazards &Crisis in Public Policy, EarlyView.
Abstract The current body of multidisciplinary literature on crisis management still has some unresolved problems. This paper focuses on the following four “controversial issues” in dealing with crises: the usefulness of emergency plans; early signal detection; decision‐making amid high uncertainty; and the centralization/decentralization dilemma.

“It's Just a Hot Mess”: Supporting Teacher Praxis to Challenge Barriers for Multilingual Learners

open access: yesScience Education, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT This paper examines a professional learning (PL) program for upper elementary teachers focused on developing instructional practices to support multilingual learners (MLLs) in science. The PL sought to support teachers' praxis, which we describe as their sense of agency to critically analyze and take action against barriers to MLLs ...
