Utility of Fear Severity and Individual Resilience Scoring as a Surge Capacity, Triage Management Tool during Large-Scale, Bio-event Disasters [PDF]
Threats of bioterrorism and emerging infectious disease pandemics may result in fear related consequences. Fear based signs and symptoms, if left undetected and untreated, may be extremely debilitating and lead to chronic problems with risk of permanent ...

Early nurturing experiences, self-compassion, hyperarousal and scleroderma the way we relate to ourselves may determine disease progression [PDF]
<p>Scleroderma is a rare, painful and complex autoimmune connective tissue disease that can lead to death. The physiology of symptom onset and progression and the psychological aspects of living with this chronic disease have been studied fairly ...

Fight or flight: How gender influences follower responses to unethical leader behaviour
Does unethical leader behaviour produce gendered responses? We study follower response to unethical leader behaviours of bribery and workplace harassment. Our findings, based on an experiment, suggest that leader gender, gender congruence, and implicit gender biases influence follower responses to unethical leader behaviour.

Calcium Channel Regulation in the Fight-Or-Flight Response [PDF]
Voltage-gated calcium channel type 1.2 (Cav1.2) is activated in response to cardiac action potentials and conducts calcium entry that initiates excitation-contraction coupling. Cav1.2 activity is increased by stimulation of the beta-adrenergic receptor/cAMP-dependent protein kinase (PKA) signaling pathway in the fight-or-flight response.

Neuromodulator and Emotion Biomarker for Stress Induced Mental Disorders
Affective disorders are a leading cause of disabilities worldwide, and the etiology of these many affective disorders such as depression and posttraumatic stress disorder is due to hormone changes, which includes hypothalamus-pituitary-adrenal axis in ...

The Popeye Domain Containing Genes and cAMP Signaling
3'-5'-cyclic adenosine monophosphate (cAMP) is a second messenger, which plays an important role in the heart. It is generated in response to activation of G-protein-coupled receptors (GPCRs).

Severe stress leads to alterations in energy metabolism with sexually dimorphic onset or severity. The locus coeruleus (LC) in the brainstem that mediates fight-or-flight-or-freeze response to stress is sexually dimorphic in morphology, plays a key role ...
