The newfound relationship between extrachromosomal DNAs and excised signal circles

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Extrachromosomal DNAs (ecDNAs) contribute to the progression of many human cancers. In addition, circular DNA by‐products of V(D)J recombination, excised signal circles (ESCs), have roles in cancer progression but have largely been overlooked. In this Review, we explore the roles of ecDNAs and ESCs in cancer development, and highlight why these ...

First Principle Study on Structural, Thermoelectric, and Magnetic Properties of Cubic CdCrO3 Perovskites: A Comprehensive Analysis

open access: yesCrystals, 2023
The primary objective of contemporary manufacturing is to produce items that are low-cost, environmentally friendly, and energy efficient. This study aimed to investigate compounds that fulfil these criteria, with a focus on CdCrO3.

Sequence determinants of RNA G‐quadruplex unfolding by Arg‐rich regions

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
We show that Arg‐rich peptides selectively unfold RNA G‐quadruplexes, but not RNA stem‐loops or DNA/RNA duplexes. This length‐dependent activity is inhibited by acidic residues and is conserved among SR and SR‐related proteins (SRSF1, SRSF3, SRSF9, U1‐70K, and U2AF1).

Figure of merit for photonic differentiators

open access: yesOptics Express, 2012
We introduce a universal figure of merit to evaluate the processing speed (operation bandwidth) performance of arbitrary-order optical differentiators. In particular, we define the maximum-to-minimum bandwidth ratio (MMBR) as a main figure of merit of these devices, which essentially informs about the broadness of the acceptable input pulse bandwidth ...

Cell wall target fragment discovery using a low‐cost, minimal fragment library

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
LoCoFrag100 is a fragment library made up of 100 different compounds. Similarity between the fragments is minimized and 10 different fragments are mixed into a single cocktail, which is soaked to protein crystals. These crystals are analysed by X‐ray crystallography, revealing the binding modes of the bound fragment ligands.

Screening for lung cancer: A systematic review of overdiagnosis and its implications

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Low‐dose computed tomography (CT) screening for lung cancer may increase overdiagnosis compared to no screening, though the risk is likely low versus chest X‐ray. Our review of 8 trials (84 660 participants) shows added costs. Further research with strict adherence to modern nodule management strategies may help determine the extent to which ...

Considering the Figure of Merit as a parameter of optimization in Mammography: a case study of the performance in a CR and a DR system

open access: yesBrazilian Journal of Radiation Sciences
Mammography is an important examination for the early detection of breast cancer, and its use requires radiation protection considerations to ensure the lowest possible risk to the patient.

Reduced vascular leakage correlates with breast carcinoma T regulatory cell infiltration but not with metastatic propensity

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
A mouse model for vascular normalization and a human breast cancer cohort were studied to understand the relationship between vascular leakage and tumor immune suppression. For this, endothelial and immune cell RNAseq, staining for vascular function, and immune cell profiling were employed.

Enhancement of thermoelectric properties of La-doped SrTiO3 bulk by introducing nanoscale porosity [PDF]

open access: yesRoyal Society Open Science, 2019
Electron-doped SrTiO3 is a well-known n-type thermoelectric material, although the figure of merit of SrTiO3 is still inferior compared with p-type metal oxide-based thermoelectric materials due to its high lattice thermal conductivity. In this study, we

Developing evidence‐based, cost‐effective P4 cancer medicine for driving innovation in prevention, therapeutics, patient care and reducing healthcare inequalities

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
The cancer problem is increasing globally with projections up to the year 2050 showing unfavourable outcomes in terms of incidence and cancer‐related deaths. The main challenges are prevention, improved therapeutics resulting in increased cure rates and enhanced health‐related quality of life.
