Atopic dermatitis and filaggrin

Current Opinion in Immunology, 2016
Filaggrin has a key structural and functional role in the epidermis with important impact on the homeostasis of the skin. Inherited or acquired filaggrin deficiency has been described to essentially contribute to the pathogenesis of atopic dermatitis (AD), one of the most frequent chronic eczematous skin diseases in child-hood and adult-hood ...

Filaggrin and childhood eczema

Archives of Disease in Childhood, 2017
Atopic dermatitis (AD) is an inflammatory skin disease characterised by pruritus, dry skin, crusting and lichenification with a worldwide lifetime prevalence ranging from 1.8% to 44% across different populations.1 This disease poses significant medical, psychosocial and financial burdens for children and their families.2 AD has a complex aetiology that

Filaggrin in atopic dermatitis

Journal of Allergy and Clinical Immunology, 2008
The recent identification of loss-of-function mutations in the structural protein filaggrin as a widely replicated major risk factor for eczema sheds new light on disease mechanisms in eczema, a disease that had heretofore largely been considered to have a primarily immunologic etiopathogenesis. The filaggrin gene (FLG) mutation findings are consistent

Filaggrins

1999
Abstract Filaggrin is named for its ability to cause intermediate filament aggregation in vitro. It is one of the original proteins recognized as an ‘intermediate filament-associated protein’ or IFAP. Filaggrin is expressed by keratinocytes of epidermis and other cornified epithelia as the cells undergo terminal differentiation and form ...

Filaggrin und Hautbarriere

Allergo Journal, 2009

Pathologie-biologie, 1989
Cells in the granular layer of mammalian epidermis contain densely staining bodies called keratohyalin granules. Two types of granules are identified. Larger ones contain phosphorus and consist largely of an unusually histidine rich protein. This protein has a high molecular weight and contains a large fraction of basic aminoacids.

Detection of New Epitopes of Antibodies to Filaggrin in Filaggrin Protein Molecule

Bulletin of Experimental Biology and Medicine, 2011
Immunogenic characteristics of filaggrin protein molecule as an antigen for antibodies to filaggrin, markers of early rheumatoid arthritis, were studied. Two new peptide motives, possible epitopes for antibodies to filaggrin, were shown in the filaggrin molecule by predictive analysis using programmed algorithms.

Filaggrin and Skin Barrier Function

2016
The skin barrier function is greatly dependent on the structure and composition of the uppermost layer of the epidermis, the stratum corneum (SC), which is made up of flattened anucleated cells surrounded by highly organized and continuous lipid matrix.

Keratin and filaggrin expression in keratoacanthoma

Journal of the European Academy of Dermatology and Venereology, 2007
AbstractTo clarify the histogenesis of keratoacanthoma, we studied keratin (K) expression in keratoacanthoma (KA) using 10 different anti‐keratin antibodies against K1, K7, K8, K10, K14, K15, K16, K17, K18 and K19 and anti‐filaggrin (filament aggregating protein) antibody.

Der Hautarzt; Zeitschrift fur Dermatologie, Venerologie, und verwandte Gebiete, 1986
It has been shown in recent studies that a group of histidine-rich proteins play a significant role--as interfilamentous matrix proteins--in keratin formation in the epidermis of man and other species. These proteins have been termed filaggrins in reference to their ability to aggregate in vitro reconstituted keratin filaments to macrofibrils with a ...
