Multiple Slot Laminar Film Cooling

AIAA Journal, 1972
An analytical investigation is presented showing the effect of film cooling using single and double slots. The analysis considers the tangential injection of a gas of the same molecular weight as the main flow into a laminar boundary layer. Results in terms of heat transfer to the wall are presented for different slot heights, and injection velocities

Experimental Investigation of Sweeping Jet Film Cooling in a Transonic Turbine Cascade

Journal of turbomachinery, 2019
The sweeping jet (SJ) film cooling hole has shown promising cooling performance compared to the standard shaped hole in low-speed conditions. The present work demonstrates the first attempt of SJ film cooling at an engine relevant Mach number.

Flow Dynamics of a Film Cooling Jet Issued From a Round Hole Embedded in Contoured Crater

Journal of turbomachinery, 2019
Recent advances in gas turbine film cooling technology such as round film cooling holes embedded in craters or trenches, and shaped film cooling holes are of interest due to a marked improvement in the effectiveness of film cooling jets.

Experimental Investigation on Additively Manufactured Transpiration and Film Cooling Structures

Journal of turbomachinery, 2018
The last 50 years has witnessed significant improvement in film cooling technologies while transpiration cooling is still not implemented in turbine airfoil cooling. Although transpiration cooling could provide higher cooling efficiency with less coolant

Thermal‐Rectified Gradient Porous Polymeric Film for Solar‐Thermal Regulatory Cooling

Advances in Materials
Solar‐thermal regulation concerning thermal insulation and solar modulation is pivotal for cooling textiles and smart buildings. Nevertheless, a contradiction arises in balancing the demand to prevent external heat infiltration with the efficient ...

Cooling Effectiveness on Film Cooled Turbine Blades

Heat Transfer: Volume 5 — Computational, Aerospace and Environmental Heat Transfer, 2001
Abstract This paper presents experiments on the cooling effectiveness obtained for two different injection locations on the suction side of a turbine blade at transonic flow conditions. Previous results of a computational analysis and flow visualization indicated that a separation bubble is present on the suction side at a location x/L =

Thin-film thermoelectric cooling

Technical Physics, 2009
Basic physical features of thermoelectric cooling in p-n structures of a submicrometer thickness, which is manifested even in the linear approximation in current, are investigated. It is shown that a multitem-perature model in which each subsystem of quasi-particles is characterized by its own temperature is effective for studying such structures.

Cooling Effectiveness for a Shaped Film Cooling Hole at a Range of Compound Angles

Journal of turbomachinery, 2018
Shaped film cooling holes are a well-established cooling technique used in gas turbines to keep component metal temperatures in an acceptable range. One of the goals of film cooling is to reduce the driving temperature for convection at the wall, the ...

Multi-slot film cooling

Letters in Heat and Mass Transfer, 1974
Abstract Measured and predicted values of adiabatic-wall effectiveness for multi-slot film cooling are compared and shown to be in close agreement. Further calculations are presented to demonstrate that the longitudinal spacing of the slots can be optimized to result in a minimum number of slots and coolant mass-flow requirement.

Sweeping Jet Film Cooling on a Turbine Vane

Journal of turbomachinery, 2018
The cooling performance of sweeping jet film cooling was studied on a turbine vane suction surface in a low-speed linear cascade wind tunnel. The sweeping jet holes consist of fluidic oscillators with an aspect ratio (AR) of unity and a hole spacing of ...
