Effects of LoD and PoD in combined-hole film cooling [PDF]

open access: yes, 2017
Film cooling technique was used to provide thermal protection for turbine components from the hot combustion gases. Combined-hole film cooling system was introduced as a way to improve the film cooling performances.

Sustainable Synthesis of Bio‐Based Magnetic and Conductive Wood for Electromagnetic Interference Shielding Applications

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
A wood‐based magnetic and conductive material called Magwood (MW), capable of blocking almost 99.99% of electromagnetic waves (in the X‐band frequency range), is synthesized using a simple, solvent‐free process. MW is lightweight, resists water, and is flame‐retardant, making it a promising alternative for shielding electronics. The rapid proliferation

Surrogate-based optimization of a cratered cylindrical hole to enhance film-cooling effectiveness

open access: yesJournal of Thermal Science and Technology, 2016
A cratered film-cooling hole was investigated to determine the effect of shape parameters on film-cooling performance, and shape of the hole was optimized to improve film-cooling effectiveness.

Thermoelectric Modules Incorporating MgAgSb and Mg3(Sb,Bi)2 Synthesized Using a Melting Method

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
A scalable synthesis method for a thermoelectric material of MgAgSb is established. A thermoelectric power module of MgAgSb/Mg3(Sb,Bi)2 is fabricated, showing the conversion efficiency of 7.4% at ΔT = 315 K. The performance is comparable to conventional Bi2Te3 modules when they are operated with an air‐cooled heat exchanger.

Removing Homocoupling Defects in Alkoxy/Alkyl‐PBTTT Enhances Polymer:Fullerene Co‐Crystal Formation and Stability

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
PBTTT‐OR‐R, a C14‐alkoxy/alkyl‐PBTTT polymer derivative, is of substantial interest for optoelectronics due to its specific fullerene intercalation behavior and enhanced charge‐transfer absorption. Comparing this polymer with (S) and without (O) homocoupling defects reveals that PBTTT‐OR‐R(O) forms stable co‐crystals with PC61BM, while PBTTT‐OR‐R(S ...

Experimental and simulation study on the effect of geometrical and flow parameters for combined-hole film cooling [PDF]

open access: yes, 2016
Film cooling method was applied to the turbine blades to provide thermal protection from high turbine inlet temperatures in modern gas turbines. Recent literature discovers that combining two cylindrical holes of film cooling is one of the ways to ...

Ideal Molecular Sieving with a Dense MOF for Helium Upgrading with Highly Diffusion Selective Mixed Matrix Membranes

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
The separation of Helium gas from natural gas is challenging but highly important. MIL‐116(Ga), a “non‐porous” metal–organic framework is used as a molecular sieve to separate He from CH4. Druse‐like MIL‐116(Ga) particles are integrated into polysulfone mixed matrix membranes.

Analysis of sweeping jet and film composite cooling using the decoupled model

open access: yesOpen Physics, 2023
The heat transfer process of the sweeping jet and film composite cooling (SJF) structure of the turbine blade leading edge is complex. The current work divides the overall cooling effectiveness of the SJF into the impingement heat transfer effectiveness,

Semiconductor cooling by thin-film thermocouples [PDF]

open access: yes, 1970
Thin-film, metal alloy thermocouple junctions do not rectify, change circuit impedance only slightly, and require very little increase in space. Although they are less efficient cooling devices than semiconductor junctions, they may be applied to assist ...
