Bibliometric analysis of research trends in Chinese cultural and creative industries

open access: yesFrontiers in Communication
Over the past two decades, research on cultural and creative industries (CCIs) has grown significantly, with China emerging as a focal area. This study employs a bibliometric analysis of Scopus data to map research trends in Chinese CCIs, examining co ...

Fantasie violente: il sogno ad occhi aperti in Omero e nel cinema

open access: yesthersites. Journal for Transcultural Presences & Diachronic Identities from Antiquity to Date, 2017
Daydreams and visions are much used in fiction; filmmaking is perhaps the best way to represent them, thanks to its most powerful tool: editing. This paper focuses on a particular category of daydreams: violent phantasies.

Cinephilia and the Aestheticization of Film. Cultural Legitimacy Before and After

open access: yesZoneModa Journal, 2020
The history of cinema is characterized by the fight for cultural legitimacy. Specifically, in the 20th century, cinema played a key role for the expansion of the aesthetic field in debates on contemporary times and even influenced the philosophy of art ...

Revealing the structure of land plant photosystem II: the journey from negative‐stain EM to cryo‐EM

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Advances in cryo‐EM have revealed the detailed structure of Photosystem II, a key protein complex driving photosynthesis. This review traces the journey from early low‐resolution images to high‐resolution models, highlighting how these discoveries deepen our understanding of light harvesting and energy conversion in plants.

In situ molecular organization and heterogeneity of the Legionella Dot/Icm T4SS

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
We present a nearly complete in situ model of the Legionella Dot/Icm type IV secretion system, revealing its central secretion channel and identifying new components. Using cryo‐electron tomography with AI‐based modeling, our work highlights the structure, variability, and mechanism of this complex nanomachine, advancing understanding of bacterial ...

Film Theory: Rational Reconstructions, by Warren Buckland

open access: yesAlphaville: Journal of Film and Screen Media, 2012
There was a time when film theory was at the centre of intense debate and cutting-edge intellectual innovation. Between the late 1960s and the early 1980s, in particular, this scholarship helped to establish the broader discipline of film studies while ...

Sequence determinants of RNA G‐quadruplex unfolding by Arg‐rich regions

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
We show that Arg‐rich peptides selectively unfold RNA G‐quadruplexes, but not RNA stem‐loops or DNA/RNA duplexes. This length‐dependent activity is inhibited by acidic residues and is conserved among SR and SR‐related proteins (SRSF1, SRSF3, SRSF9, U1‐70K, and U2AF1).

A methionine‐lined active site governs carbocation stabilization and product specificity in a bacterial terpene synthase

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
This study reveals a unique active site enriched in methionine residues and demonstrates that these residues play a critical role by stabilizing carbocation intermediates through novel sulfur–cation interactions. Structure‐guided mutagenesis further revealed variants with significantly altered product profiles, enhancing pseudopterosin formation. These

Peroxidasin enables melanoma immune escape by inhibiting natural killer cell cytotoxicity

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Peroxidasin (PXDN) is secreted by melanoma cells and binds the NK cell receptor NKG2D, thereby suppressing NK cell activation and cytotoxicity. PXDN depletion restores NKG2D signaling and enables effective NK cell–mediated melanoma killing. These findings identify PXDN as a previously unrecognized immune evasion factor and a potential target to improve

Men’s Cinema: Masculinity and Mise en Scène in Hollywood, by Stella Bruzzi (2013)

open access: yesAlphaville: Journal of Film and Screen Media, 2015
Recent developments in film theory have seen an attempt to integrate formalist and cultural modes of film analysis that have traditionally been opposed.
