SMS spam filtering: Methods and data [PDF]

open access: yesExpert Systems with Applications, 2012
Mobile or SMS spam is a real and growing problem primarily due to the availability of very cheap bulk pre-pay SMS packages and the fact that SMS engenders higher response rates as it is a trusted and personal service. SMS spam filtering is a relatively new task which inherits many issues and solu- tions from email spam filtering.

Enteropathogenic E. coli shows delayed attachment and host response in human jejunum organoid‐derived monolayers compared to HeLa cells

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Enteropathogenic E. coli (EPEC) infects the human intestinal epithelium, resulting in severe illness and diarrhoea. In this study, we compared the infection of cancer‐derived cell lines with human organoid‐derived models of the small intestine. We observed a delayed in attachment, inflammation and cell death on primary cells, indicating that host ...

Comparison of Filter and Wrapper Feature Selection Methods for Heart Disease Risk Classification using K-Nearest Neighbors (k-NN)

open access: yesSistemasi: Jurnal Sistem Informasi
Feature selection plays a crucial role in improving the effectiveness of medical classification models. This study compares two feature selection approaches—filter and wrapper methods—in developing a k-Nearest Neighbors (k-NN) model for heart disease ...

In situ molecular organization and heterogeneity of the Legionella Dot/Icm T4SS

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
We present a nearly complete in situ model of the Legionella Dot/Icm type IV secretion system, revealing its central secretion channel and identifying new components. Using cryo‐electron tomography with AI‐based modeling, our work highlights the structure, variability, and mechanism of this complex nanomachine, advancing understanding of bacterial ...

A Novel Preprocessing Approach Applying Pairwise Differences of Opposite Samples for Improved Interpretability in Binary Medical Classification

open access: yesIEEE Access
Interpretability is crucial for the clinical adoption of machine learning, as healthcare providers require transparent decision-making processes to trust predictive tools effectively. Traditional feature selection methods often struggle to capture subtle

Cell wall target fragment discovery using a low‐cost, minimal fragment library

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
LoCoFrag100 is a fragment library made up of 100 different compounds. Similarity between the fragments is minimized and 10 different fragments are mixed into a single cocktail, which is soaked to protein crystals. These crystals are analysed by X‐ray crystallography, revealing the binding modes of the bound fragment ligands.

Robust Estimation and Tracking of Power System Harmonics Using an Optimal Finite Impulse Response Filter

open access: yesEnergies, 2018
In this paper, a robust estimation method for estimating the power system harmonics is proposed by using the optimal finite impulse response (FIR) filter. The optimal FIR filter is applied to the state space representation of the noisy current or voltage

A method for reducing sampling jitter in digital control systems [PDF]

open access: yes, 1969
Digital phase lock loop system is designed by smoothing the proportional control with a low pass filter. This method does not significantly affect the loop dynamics when the smoothing filter bandwidth is wide compared to loop ...

The (Glg)ABCs of cyanobacteria: modelling of glycogen synthesis and functional divergence of glycogen synthases in Synechocystis sp. PCC 6803

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
We reconstituted Synechocystis glycogen synthesis in vitro from purified enzymes and showed that two GlgA isoenzymes produce glycogen with different architectures: GlgA1 yields denser, highly branched glycogen, whereas GlgA2 synthesizes longer, less‐branched chains.

Valosin‐containing protein counteracts ATP‐driven dissolution of FUS condensates through its ATPase activity in vitro

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Biomolecular condensates formed by fused in sarcoma (FUS) are dissolved by high ATP concentrations yet persist in cells. Using a reconstituted system, we demonstrate that valosin‐containing protein (VCP), an AAA+ ATPase, counteracts ATP‐driven dissolution of FUS condensates through its D2 ATPase activity.
