Unsteady Magnetohydrodynamics PDE of Monge–Ampère Type: Symmetries, Closed-Form Solutions, and Reductions

open access: yesMathematics
The paper studies an unsteady equation with quadratic nonlinearity in second derivatives, that occurs in electron magnetohydrodynamics. In mathematics, such PDEs are referred to as parabolic Monge–Ampère equations.

Current Tracking Adaptive Control of Brushless DC Motors

open access: yesInternational Journal of Adaptive Control and Signal Processing, EarlyView.
In this paper, the current tracking for Brushless Direct Current motors is approached considering uncertainty in the parameters of the motor's model. An adaptive control scheme to compensate electrical parameters uncertainty is proposed without requiring any knowledge of the mechanical parameters.

Geometric Optimization and Mechanical Performance Enhancement of Auxetic Structures for High‐Impact Applications Through Fused Deposition Modeling

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
This study explores the mechanical performance of three auxetic structures, identifying a re‐entrant‐star hybrid as the most effective for impact absorption. Finite element simulations and experiments demonstrate significant gains in energy absorption and flexural strength after geometric optimization. This study investigates the mechanical performance

Non-Newtonian polytropic filtration systems with nonlinear boundary conditions

open access: yesBoundary Value Problems, 2011
This article deals with the global existence and the blow-up of non-Newtonian polytropic filtration systems with nonlinear boundary conditions. Necessary and sufficient conditions on the global existence of all positive (weak) solutions are obtained by ...

X‐Ray Tomography Analysis of Damage Mechanisms in Metal Matrix Syntactic Foams During Compression

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
In situ synchrotron X‐ray tomography is used to investigate the internal damage mechanisms of AlSi12 metal matrix syntactic foam with ceramic hollow spheres during compressive loading. It is concluded that a homogeneous distribution of the second‐phase filler material results in a sequential collapse in a localized region; this leads to controlled and ...

Equivariant Sheaves

open access: yes, 1998
In this article we review some recent developments in heterotic compactifications. In particular we review an ``inherently toric'' description of certain sheaves, called equivariant sheaves, that has recently been discussed in the physics literature.

A Workflow to Accelerate Microstructure‐Sensitive Fatigue Life Predictions

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
This study introduces a workflow to accelerate predictions of microstructure‐sensitive fatigue life. Results from frameworks with varying levels of simplification are benchmarked against published reference results. The analysis reveals a trade‐off between accuracy and model complexity, offering researchers a practical guide for selecting the optimal ...

A topological approach for protein classification

open access: yes, 2015
Protein function and dynamics are closely related to its sequence and structure. However prediction of protein function and dynamics from its sequence and structure is still a fundamental challenge in molecular biology.

Mathematical theory of stationary miscible filtration

open access: yesJournal of Differential Equations, 1991
The problem in the title amounts to the nonlinear elliptic system \[ (1)\quad v=-K(\mu\circ c)^{-1}(\nabla p-f);\quad (2)\quad\text{div}v=q^ I-q^ P;\quad (3)\quad -\text{div}(D^ \beta\nabla c-vc)+q^ Pc=q^ I, \] where the unknowns \(p\), \(v\), \(c\) are interpreted as pressure, velocity and concentration, respectively, \(K\), \(\mu\), \(f\), \(q^ I\), \
