Enteroaggregative Escherichia coli Adherence Fimbriae Drive Inflammatory Cell Recruitment via Interactions with Epithelial MUC1

open access: yesmBio, 2017
Enteroaggregative Escherichia coli (EAEC) causes diarrhea and intestinal inflammation worldwide. EAEC strains are characterized by the presence of aggregative adherence fimbriae (AAF), which play a key role in pathogenesis by mediating attachment to the ...

Taurocholic Acid Is Associated With Disturbed Functional Connectivity in the Hippocampus of Patients With Depression

open access: yesAdvanced Science, Volume 13, Issue 13, 3 March 2026.
This study identifies elevated taurocholic acid (TCA) in Major Depressive Disorder patients. Gut microbiome‐associated TCA impairs hippocampal neurogenesis, triggers microglia activation, and elicits depression‐like behavior in mice via the S1PR2. In patients, functional neuroimaging reveals that serum TCA levels correlate with altered functional ...

Pathogenesis of Important Virulence Factors of Porphyromonas gingivalis via Toll-Like Receptors

open access: yesFrontiers in Cellular and Infection Microbiology, 2019
Periodontitis is a common intraoral infection and is inextricably linked to systemic diseases. Recently, the regulation between host immunologic response and periodontal pathogens has become a hotspot to explain the mechanism of periodontitis and related

Anatomical Progression of Neuropathology in FTLD‐TDP Type C and Linkage to Annexin A11

open access: yesAnnals of Neurology, Volume 99, Issue 3, Page 639-655, March 2026.
Objective Frontotemporal lobar degenerations (FTLD)‐TDP type C (TDP‐C) is distinguished from other FTLD‐TDP subtypes by 3 unique features: (1) invariable onset in the anterior temporal lobe (ATL), (2) phosphorylated TDP‐43 (pTDP) neurites in cortex, and (3) colocalization of all pTDP deposits with annexin A11 (ANXA11).

Unraveling the molecular basis of subunit specificity in P pilus assembly by mass spectrometry [PDF]

open access: yes, 2008
P pili are multisubunit fibers essential for the attachment of uropathogenic Escherichia coli to the kidney. These fibers are formed by the noncovalent assembly of six different homologous subunit types in an array that is strictly defined in terms of ...

Clinal Variation in Reproductive Modes and Offspring Body Condition Across a Contact Zone of a Bimodal Viviparous Salamander

open access: yesEcology and Evolution, Volume 16, Issue 3, March 2026.
We examined clinal gradients in reproductive modes and associated offspring body condition across a hybrid zone between two bimodal viviparous subspecies of Salamandra salamandra. We found a clear cline in reproductive modes, with pure modes at the extremes and mixed modes in central populations.

Both flagella and F4 fimbriae from F4ac+ enterotoxigenic Escherichia coli contribute to attachment to IPEC-J2 cells in vitro

open access: yesVeterinary Research, 2013
The role of flagella in the pathogenesis of F4ac+ Enterotoxigenic Escherichia coli (ETEC) mediated neonatal and post-weaning diarrhea (PWD) is not currently understood.

Engineered Probiotics: The Next‐Generation Therapeutics to Combat Antibiotic‐Resistant Bacterial Infections

open access: yesFood Frontiers, Volume 7, Issue 2, March 2026.
Engineered probiotics secretes fusion proteins which potentially neutralized the toxins secreted by other microbial communities. ABSTRACT On a global scale, the escalating burden of infectious diseases, predominantly attributed to bacterial pathogens, especially drug‐resistant strains, has progressed into a critical concern for clinical management and ...
