Well-posed final value problems and Duhamel's formula for coercive Lax–Milgram operators

open access: yesElectronic Research Archive, 2019
<p>This paper treats parabolic final value problems generated by coercive Lax–Milgram operators, and well-posedness is proved for this large class. The result is obtained by means of an isomorphism between Hilbert spaces containing the data and solutions.

Randomized Algorithms for Tracking Distributed Count, Frequencies, and Ranks

open access: yes, 2011
We show that randomization can lead to significant improvements for a few fundamental problems in distributed tracking. Our basis is the {\em count-tracking} problem, where there are $k$ players, each holding a counter $n_i$ that gets incremented over ...

Evaluation of in vitro toxicity of common phytochemicals included in weight loss supplements using 1H NMR spectroscopy

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
We investigated the toxicity of 12 active compounds commonly found in herbal weight loss supplements (WLS) using human liver and colon cell models. Epigallocatechin‐3‐gallate was the only compound showing significant toxicity. Metabolic profiling revealed protein degradation, disrupted energy and lipid metabolism suggesting that the inclusion of EGCG ...

Sustainable bioplastics manufacturing from renewable sources

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
Bioplastics are manufactured by using polymers from different bio‐based sources. These novel materials not only offer biodegradability but also possess various functional properties that make them suitable for diverse applications. Recent developments in the preparation of bioplastics are reported, highlighting the distinct properties of each type of ...

A VIKOR-Based Sequential Three-Way Classification Ranking Method

open access: yesAlgorithms
VIKOR uses the idea of overall utility maximization and individual regret minimization to afford a compromise result for multi-attribute decision-making problems with conflicting attributes.

Asymptotic Control for a Class of Piecewise Deterministic Markov Processes Associated to Temperate Viruses

open access: yes, 2015
We aim at characterizing the asymptotic behavior of value functions in the control of piece-wise deterministic Markov processes (PDMP) of switch type under nonexpansive assumptions.

Applicability of mitotic figure counting by deep learning: a development and pan‐cancer validation study

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
In this study, we developed a deep learning method for mitotic figure counting in H&E‐stained whole‐slide images and evaluated its prognostic impact in 13 external validation cohorts from seven different cancer types. Patients with more mitotic figures per mm2 had significantly worse patient outcome in all the studied cancer types except colorectal ...

Convolutions with probability densities and applications to PDEs

open access: yesElectronic Journal of Differential Equations, 2017
In this article we introduce several new convolution operators, generated by some known probability densities. By using the inverse Fourier transform and taking inverse steps (in the analogues of the classical procedures used for example in the heat ...

Single‐molecule DNA flow‐stretch assays for high‐throughput DNA–protein interaction studies

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
We describe an optimised single‐molecule DNA flow‐stretch assay that visualises DNA–protein interactions in real time. Linear DNA fragments are tethered to a surface and stretched by buffer flow for fluorescence imaging. Using λ and φX174 DNA, this protocol enhances reproducibility and accessibility, providing a versatile approach for studying diverse ...
