Defence Contracting and Accrual‐Based Earnings Management

ABSTRACT We examine accrual‐based earnings management in Spanish defence firms in 2011–2020, using a unique database from the Spanish Ministry of Defence. We find higher levels of accrual‐based earnings management and lower accrual quality in firms where defence contracts represent a high proportion of their total sales.

An empirical analysis of percentage tax designation to the catholic church and other social entities in Spain

Abstract Since 2007, the Spanish State's contribution to funding the Catholic Church comes from what is known as the ‘tax allocation’ (asignación tributaria). It is a pure system of percentage tax designation consisting of 0.7% of the tax liability of taxpayers who decide to tick the relevant box on their personal income tax form.

Abstract Illegal wildlife trade (IWT) is one of the largest global illegal activities, and it negatively affects biodiversity and sustainable development worldwide. DNA barcoding coupled with high‐throughput sequencing (i.e., metabarcoding) is useful in identifying taxa affected by IWT and has been used routinely for decades.
