Financial Liberalization and Capital Flight* [PDF]

open access: yes, 2014
During the past decades, many countries experienced considerable capital flight. Residents moved their wealth abroad, using different ways to accumulate foreign assets. Since the 1990s, several of these countries reformed their domestic financial markets in an attempt to improve the functioning of their domestic financial systems and to increase the ...

The Cost of Capital of the Financial Sector [PDF]

open access: yesSSRN Electronic Journal, 2015
Standard factor pricing models do not capture well the common time-series or cross-sectional variation in average returns of financial stocks. We propose a five-factor asset pricing model that complements the standard Fama and French (1993) three-factor model with a financial sector ROE factor (FROE) and the spread between the financial sector and the ...

Fostering Innovation: Streamlining Magnetocaloric Materials Research by Digitalization

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
Magnetocaloric cooling (MCE) is an environmentally friendly refrigeration method with great potential. Optimizing MCE materials involves the preparation and screening of large quantities of samples, which in turn generates a large amount of data. A digitalization approach is presented that uses ontologies, knowledge graphs, and digital workflows to ...

The effect of social capital on financial capital [PDF]

open access: yesSSRN Electronic Journal, 2009
We study the effect of social capital on financial capital. Specifically, we study how similarity (matching) of borrowers’ and lenders’ cohorts along their corporate social responsibility dimension affects the cost of debt financing. The main finding is that borrowers’ ethical posture alone is not enough for obtaining cheapest rates.

Argentina’s external insertion during both Convertibility and Post-convertibility: agro-export specialization and financial dependence

open access: yesEnsayos de Economía, 2022
The present study aims to contribute to the debate around the meaning and extent of changes to Argentina’s economy between 2002 and 2015 (usually referred to as the “Post-Convertibility” period), in contrast to the policies of 1991-2001 (known as the ...

Capital Requirements for Financial Firms

open access: yesEconomic Commentary (Federal Reserve Bank of Cleveland), 2012
One of the reforms proposed for preventing financial crises is to require financial institutions to hold more capital. There are a number of unresolved issues related to such a requirement, ranging from the costs of increased capital requirements to the best way to structure them.

Facile Preparation of Carbon Membranes Derived from a Fluorenyl‐Containing Polyimine for Selective Hydrogen Separation

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
A fluorenyl‐containing polyimine is introduced as a simple, scalable precursor for high‐performance carbon membranes. The precursor's intrinsic kinked structure enables defect‐free membrane formation with enhanced hydrogen permeance and excellent ideal selectivities for key industrial gas pairs (H2/N2, H2/CH4, and H2/CO2), offering a practical route ...

Capital and contagion in financial networks [PDF]

open access: yes, 2013
We implement a novel method to detect systemically important financial institutions in a network. The method consists in a simple model of distress and losses redistribution derived from the interaction of banks' balance-sheets through bilateral exposures. The algorithm goes beyond the traditional default-cascade mechanism, according to which contagion

Positively Charged Polymer‐Brush MOFs for Large‐Area, Pressure‐Resistant Gas Separation Membranes

open access: yesAdvanced Materials, EarlyView.
A universal POPA strategy enables positively charged polymer‐brush MOFs with self‐adaptive interfacial interlocking to resist aggregation under fast processing. This design ensures seamless dispersion within large‐area selective layers, achieving 1 m‐wide roll‐to‐roll fabrication of pressure‐resistant MMCMs with tunable CO2 separation performance ...
