Financial networks and systemic risk in China's banking system

open access: yes, 2020
In this paper, using two alternative methods, we investigate the contagion effects and systemic risk in China’s commercial banks system based on the balance sheet data and the estimation on interbank exposures.

DNA methylation and expression of MAPRE3 affect overall survival of early‐stage non‐small cell lung cancer patients

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Both cg12821679MAPRE3 methylation and MAPRE3 expression are significantly associated with overall survival (OS) of non‐small cell lung cancer. Meanwhile, MAPRE3 expression significantly modified the effect of smoking cessation on OS. Smoking cessation benefits OS merely for patients with high MAPRE3 expression.

The multi-layer network nature of systemic risk and its implications for the costs of financial crises [PDF]

open access: yes, 2015
The inability to see and quantify systemic financial risk comes at an immense social cost. Systemic risk in the financial system arises to a large extent as a consequence of the interconnectedness of its institutions, which are linked through networks of

Polarization‐resolved femtosecond Vis/IR spectroscopy tailored for resolving weak signals in biological samples using minimal sample volume

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
Unique biological samples, such as site‐specific mutant proteins, are available only in limited quantities. Here, we present a polarization‐resolved transient infrared spectroscopy setup with referencing to improve signal‐to‐noise tailored towards tracing small signals. We provide an overview of characterizing the excitation conditions for polarization‐

On the influence of network structure on the resilience and losses of financial systems

open access: yesJournal of Mechanism and Institution Design
We investigate resilience to defaults in financial networks, where nodes hold shares in a common set of external assets. Price fluctuations in these assets can trigger shareholder defaults, propagating through the network and causing default cascades. In

Vestibular Patient Journey: Insights From Vestibular Disorders Association (VeDA) Registry

open access: yesAnnals of Clinical and Translational Neurology, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Objective Vestibular symptoms impose a high burden of disability. Understanding real‐world diagnostic and treatment pathways can identify care gaps and guide interventions. We aimed to characterize symptom profiles, diagnostic trends, provider involvement, and treatment patterns in vestibular disorders.

Bayesian dynamic financial networks with time-varying predictors

open access: yes, 2014
We propose a Bayesian nonparametric model including time-varying predictors in dynamic network inference. The model is applied to infer the dependence structure among financial markets during the global financial crisis, estimating effects of verbal and ...

Duality in Financial Networks

open access: yesSSRN Electronic Journal
This article introduces the concept of duality in financial networks. In bankruptcy problems, in which a bankrupt entity divides its non-negative assets among a group of claimants, duality of bankruptcy rules entails the division of losses versus gains.
