I discuss the current status of inflationary cosmology in light of the recent WMAP 3-year data release. The basic predictions of inflation are all supported by the data. Inflation also makes predictions which have not been well tested by current data but

Networks of coercion: Military ties and civilian leadership challenges in China
Abstract Civilian‐led coups are one of the most common routes to losing power in autocracies. How do authoritarian leaders secure themselves from civilian leadership challenges? We argue that autocrats differentiate civilian rivals in part by their social ties to the military.

ABSTRACT Pacific cod (Gadus macrocephalus) are important predators of juvenile snow (Chionoecetes opilio) and Tanner crab (Chionoecetes bairdi) in the eastern Bering Sea (EBS), yet the relationship between cod–crab spatial overlap and total crab consumption is only partially understood.

A Horizon Ratio Bound for Inflationary Fluctuations
We demonstrate that the gravity wave background amplitude implies a robust upper bound on the ratio: \lambda / H^{-1} < e^60, where \lambda is the proper wavelength of fluctuations of interest and H^{-1} is the horizon at the end of inflation.

Braneworld inflation from an effective field theory after WMAP three-year data [PDF]
In light of the results from the WMAP three-year sky survey, we study an inflationary model based on a single-field polynomial potential, with up to quartic terms in the inflaton field.

Diffuse Far-UV Line Emission from the Low-Redshift Lyman Break Galaxy Analog KISSR242
We present new ultraviolet (UV) observations of the luminous compact blue galaxy KISSR242, obtained with the HST-COS. We identify multiple resolved sub-arcsecond near-UV sources within the COS aperture.

A view of the narrow-line region in the infrared: active galactic nuclei with resolved fine-structure lines in the Spitzer archive [PDF]
We queried the Spitzer archive for high-resolution observations with the Infrared Spectrograph of optically selected active galactic nuclei (AGN) for the purpose of identifying sources with resolved fine-structure lines that would enable studies of the ...

Summary Plant‐derived oils are essential sources of reduced carbon and various fatty acid (FA) structures for food, biofuels, and the oleochemical industry. Despite extensive efforts, engineering mainstream oilseed crops to produce high levels of industrially valuable unusual FAs (UFAs) remains challenging.

Inflation From Symmetry Breaking Below the Planck Scale
We investigate general scalar field potentials \hbox{$V\left(\phi\right)$} for inflationary cosmology arising from spontaneous symmetry breaking. We find that potentials which are dominated by terms of order $\phi^m$ with \hbox{$m > 2$} can satisfy ...

On the Amount of Gravitational Waves from Inflation [PDF]
The curvaton and the inhomogeneous reheating scenarios for the generation of the cosmological curvature perturbation on large scales represent an alternative to the standard slow-roll scenario where the observed density perturbations are due to ...
