Pulmonary diseases induced by ambient ultrafine and engineered nanoparticles in twenty-first century. [PDF]

open access: yes, 2016
Air pollution is a severe threat to public health globally, affecting everyone in developed and developing countries alike. Among different air pollutants, particulate matter (PM), particularly combustion-produced fine PM (PM2.5) has been shown to play a

Non‐Destructive, Reference‐Free Quantitative Analysis of TaOx Memristive Devices Using Soft X‐Ray Radiation

open access: yesAdvanced Electronic Materials, EarlyView.
A non‐destructive, quantitative approach has been developed to explore the nanoscale dynamics of TaOx‐based memristive devices. The utilization of nano‐X‐ray fluorescence analysis enables the direct probing of spatially resolved elemental distributions, including those present in buried layers, that are critical for the resistive switching.

Incident Ischemic Heart Disease After Long-Term Occupational Exposure to Fine Particulate Matter: Accounting for 2 Forms of Survivor Bias. [PDF]

open access: yes, 2016
Little is known about the heart disease risks associated with occupational, rather than traffic-related, exposure to particulate matter with aerodynamic diameter of 2.5 µm or less (PM2.5).

Fine Particulate Matter, Its Constituents, and Spontaneous Preterm Birth

open access: yesJAMA Network Open
ImportanceThe associations of exposure to fine particulate matter (PM2.5) and its constituents with spontaneous preterm birth (sPTB) remain understudied. Identifying subpopulations at increased risk characterized by socioeconomic status and other environmental factors is critical for targeted interventions.ObjectiveTo examine associations of PM2.5 and ...

Kidney damage induced by sub-chronic fine particulate matter exposure

open access: yesEnvironment International, 2018
According to the WHO, about 3 million people die each year due to ambient air pollution. Most of the in vivo studies on the PM2.5 effects have been done on respiratory and cardiovascular tissues.

Racism and racial disparities in firearm violence: A scoping review

open access: yesAmerican Journal of Community Psychology, EarlyView.
Abstract Firearm violence (i.e., interpersonal, police firearm violence) disproportionately affects racially minoritized communities. Researchers recently shifted their focus from race to racism to better understand the factors that contribute to racial disparities in firearm violence.
