Variably Protease‐Sensitive Prionopathy: Two New Cases With Motor Neuron‐Dementia Syndrome

open access: yesAnnals of Clinical and Translational Neurology, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT We describe two patients with variably protease‐sensitive prionopathy (VPSPr) who developed progressive upper motor neuron symptoms, insomnia, behavioral and cognitive decline, compatible with primary lateral sclerosis associated with frontotemporal dementia (FTD).

An Experimental Study on Coal Fines Migration during Single Phase Water Flow

open access: yesGeofluids, 2020
Coal fines migration and intrusion in coal fractures affect coalbed methane (CBM) wells performance by reducing reservoir permeability and production continuity. Physical simulations are conducted to investigate the permeability variation under different

Considering the exploitation of migrants who sell sex: a case study of Brazilians in the Iberian sex industry [PDF]

open access: yes, 2015
Although migrants who sell sex often go through a range of situations which might be considered exploitative, such situations are not always linked with trafficking.

Shared Genetic Effects and Antagonistic Pleiotropy Between Multiple Sclerosis and Common Cancers

open access: yesAnnals of Clinical and Translational Neurology, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Objective Epidemiologic studies have reported inconsistent altered cancer risk in individuals with multiple sclerosis (MS). Factors such as immune dysregulation, comorbidities, and disease‐modifying therapies may contribute to this variability.

Modeling of Fine Migration in a Porous Medium [PDF]

open access: yesMATEC Web of Conferences, 2016
The structure of underground waters and water permeability of rocks must be taken into account when choosing the location of construction objects, the design of tunnels, hydraulic and underground structures. The model of filtration for suspension in solid porous medium during its displacement with clean water is considered. The numerical calculation of

Dynamic Precipitation during High‐Pressure Torsion of a Magnesium–Manganese Alloy

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
An ultrafine‐grained alloy is produced by high‐pressure torsion of solutionized Mg–1.35 wt% Mn. Precipitation of nanometer‐scale Mn particles during deformation provides pinning sites. This prevents the formation of a bimodal grain structure and results in a finer grain size than for pure Mg.

Evolutionary establishment of moral and double moral standards through spatial interactions [PDF]

open access: yes, 2010
Situations where individuals have to contribute to joint efforts or share scarce resources are ubiquitous. Yet, without proper mechanisms to ensure cooperation, the evolutionary pressure to maximize individual success tends to create a tragedy of the ...

Interaction between Molten Al‐Killed Mn–B Steel and Carbon‐Bonded MgO Refractories Based on Recyclates

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
High‐temperature interactions between low‐sulfur Al‐killed Mn–B steel and MgO–C refractories (0 and 50 wt% recyclates) are studied via finger immersion tests (1600 °C). Surface‐active elements influence infiltration. MgO/CaS layer forms, along with spinel and calcium silicate.

Mechanism Verification of Electrochemical Migration of Fine Cu Wiring

open access: yesJapanese Journal of Applied Physics, 2011
The mechanisms of electrochemical migration and consequent insulation failure in fine-pitch Cu wiring (line/space = 3 µm/3 µm) are investigated. A model in which the migration takes place in the presence of water in a phenol-based resin–resin interface between biased Cu traces is proposed. Replacing the bottom resin layer by a SiN layer is found to

Influence of Sample Preparation and Processing Procedures on the Thermal Diffusivity of MgO‐C Refractories

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
The thermal diffusivity of MgO‐C refractories is highly sensitive to sample preparation and processing procedures. In this article, the effects of coking sequence, machining conditions, structural inhomogeneity, and graphite coating application on measurements using laser flash apparatus are systematically investigated.
