New Universal Theory of Injury Prediction and Prevention [PDF]

open access: yesarXiv, 2009
The prediction and prevention of traumatic brain injury, spinal injury and general musculo-skeletal injury is a very important aspect of preventive medical science. Recently, in a series of papers, I have proposed a new coupled loading-rate hypothesis as a unique cause of all above injuries.

Silicon Nanowire Mats Enable Advanced Bioelectrical Recordings in Primary DRG Cell Cultures

open access: yesAdvanced Healthcare Materials, EarlyView.
SiNW mat‐based MEA (NW_MEA) enables continuous intracellular recordings from neurons in primary rat DRG cell cultures, identifying C‐fiber nociceptors. Supported by an astrocyte feeder layer, SiNW mat promotes DRG neuron and glial cell growth, preserving in vivo‐like cell characteristics and allowing drug‐modulated activity monitoring.

NFL Injuries Before and After the 2011 Collective Bargaining Agreement (CBA) [PDF]

open access: yesarXiv, 2018
The National Football League's (NFL) 2011 collective bargaining agreement (CBA) with its players placed a number of contact and quantity limitations on practices and workouts. Some coaches and others have expressed a concern that this has led to poor conditioning and a subsequent increase in injuries. We sought to assess whether the 2011 CBA's practice

Mesoporous Fe3O4 Nanoparticles Loaded with IR‐820 for Antibacterial Activity via Magnetic Hyperthermia Combined with Photodynamic Therapy

open access: yesAdvanced Healthcare Materials, EarlyView.
This study addresses bacterial biofilm resistance by developing mesoporous Fe3O4 nanoparticles loaded with photosensitizer IR‐820, enabling combined antimicrobial photodynamic therapyand magnetic hyperthermia therapy. The system achieves magnetic targeting, heat‐triggered drug release under alternating magnetic fields, and near‐infrared‐induced ROS ...

Immunosuppressive Formulations for Immunological Defense against Traumatic Brain Injury

open access: yesAdvanced Healthcare Materials, EarlyView.
A novel subcutaneous formulation combining alpha‐ketoglutarate, glycolysis inhibitor PFK15, and a myelin peptide reduces inflammation in a mouse TBI model. This formulation promotes regulatory immune cells, enhances autophagy, and improves motor function, suggesting its potential as a prophylactic immunosuppressive therapy to mitigate TBI‐induced ...

Performance of YOLOv7 in Kitchen Safety While Handling Knife [PDF]

open access: yesarXiv
Safe knife practices in the kitchen significantly reduce the risk of cuts, injuries, and serious accidents during food preparation. Using YOLOv7, an advanced object detection model, this study focuses on identifying safety risks during knife handling, particularly improper finger placement and blade contact with hand.

Predictive modelling of football injuries [PDF]

open access: yesarXiv, 2016
The goal of this thesis is to investigate the potential of predictive modelling for football injuries. This work was conducted in close collaboration with Tottenham Hotspurs FC (THFC), the PGA European tour and the participation of Wolverhampton Wanderers (WW). Three investigations were conducted: 1.
