Effects of causal beliefs about gout on public views about gout management: A randomized experimental study

open access: yesArthritis Care &Research, Accepted Article.
Objective Despite well‐described biological causes, the public views unhealthy lifestyle choices as the primary cause of gout. This study investigated how causal beliefs about gout influence the public's views about its management. Methods In a randomized study, 201 members of the public viewed one of two 2‐minute videos about gout.

Identifying the Strength Grade for Finger Jointed Timber Species According to BS 5268-2:2002

open access: yesJournal of Tropical Forestry and Environment, 2019
Off-cut wood is currently considered as waste thus is dumped by saw mills as they find no means of utilising them. Sawn timber material of furniture factories and short length of sawn timbers are also considered to be wastes in the timber industry ...

NASA/USRA advanced design program activity 1990/1991 [PDF]

open access: yes
Four problems were defined which had aspects which would be reasonably assigned to an interdisciplinary design team. The design problems are: (1) design of a thermal shield for a lunar telescope (thermal protection for a lunar telescope); (2 ...

Multi-fingered robotic hand [PDF]

open access: yes, 1990
A robotic hand is presented having a plurality of fingers, each having a plurality of joints pivotally connected one to the other. Actuators are connected at one end to an actuating and control mechanism mounted remotely from the hand and at the other ...

Innovating Aircraft Repair Processes: The Role of Digitalization in Sustainability

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
This research explores how digitalization—by storing detailed non‐destructive testing data in structured DICONDE databases and creating a standard data model of the component—innovates aviation maintenance and repair processes. Coupled with a developed state‐based simulation model, it enables data‐driven, sustainable repair strategies that reduce waste,

Harnessing Fungal Biowelding for Constructing Mycelium‐Engineered Materials

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
Mycelium‐bound composites (MBCs) offer low‐carbon alternatives for construction, yet interfacial bonding remains a critical challenge. This review examines fungal biowelding as a biocompatible adhesive, elucidating mycelium‐mediated interfacial mechanisms and their role in material assembly. Strategies to optimize biowelding are discussed, highlighting

Reconstruction of finger function in case of joint defects

open access: yesГений oртопедии
Introduction Repair of bone defects in the hand is still a challenge despite advancements in hand surgery and improved surgical techniques. However, the main difficulty still lies in restoring the function of the injured segment when the defect affects
