CARPOMETACARPAL JOINT INJURIES OF THE FINGERS
Hand Clinics, 1992Injuries to the carpometacarpal joints are uncommon and are sometimes overlooked on initial radiographs. Their recognition depends on a careful physical and radiographic examination that may require trispiral tomograms and CT scans. Most injuries can be treated successfully by closed reduction and percutaneous fixation of the joint(s) using Kirschner ...

METACARPOPHALANGEAL JOINT INJURIES IN FINGERS
Hand Clinics, 1992Although uncommon, injuries to the MP joints of fingers must not be ignored. A loss of function in even a single MP joint can seriously impair overall hand function. The potential dire consequences of these injuries can be avoided by an accurate diagnosis at the time of injury and the institution of appropriate treatment.

Joint Injuries of the Fingers and Thumb
Emergency Medicine Clinics of North America, 1985Prompt recognition of the magnitude of articular damage is essential for optimal management of digital joint injuries. Basic to this concept is the need to differentiate injuries that can be successfully treated by closed techniques from those that require surgery.

Hyperextension injuries to the finger joints
The American Journal of Surgery, 1950FIG. I. Dissection specimen showing intact interphaIangea1 Iigaments (I) and the bony protuberances at the insertion of the extensor tendon at (2) the distaI phaIanx and (3) the proximal phalanx; note that the interphaIangea1 ligaments are sturdy structures. Dislocation of carpometacarpal joint of the little finger
The Journal of Hand Surgery: Journal of the British Society for Surgery of the Hand, 1987A case is reported of late ulna-volar carpometacarpal dislocation of the left little finger, treated by open reduction and internal fixation.

The distal interphalangeal joints of human fingers
The Journal of Hand Surgery, 1982Abstract An examination of 100 specimens of the terminal joints of human fingers is described. Twenty-five hands fixed in fbrmalin and two additional fresh amputation specimens were investigated by dissection, inspection, palpation, and radiologic and microscopic examination.

Design of joint locks for underactuated fingers
2012 4th IEEE RAS & EMBS International Conference on Biomedical Robotics and Biomechatronics (BioRob), 2012Modern multifunctional hand prostheses have many degrees of freedom, but strong limitations on weight and size. The actuators commonly used in these systems are relatively large and heavy, so their number should be kept as low as possible. This is often accomplished by underactuation, which causes a natural motion of the fingers when grasping an object

The proximal interphalangeal and metacarpo-phalangeal joints of the index fingers of four normal healthy female subjects were studied, using a three-dimensional biomechanical analysis. The activities investigated included the application of an isometric twisting moment on a fixture representing a water tap and pinching a 45 mm cylinder between the ...

Palmar Dislocation of the Metacarpophalangeal Joint of the Finger
Journal of Hand Surgery, 2004We report a case of palmar dislocation of a finger metacarpophalangeal joint. Disruption of all the supporting structures of this joint and rupture of the flexor tendon sheath caused marked instability. Treatment was by open reduction and repair of the collateral ligaments.
