Optical Diversity and Nanostructural Organization in the Colored Scales of Sternotomis

open access: yesAdvanced Optical Materials, EarlyView.
Vivid colors in Sternotomis beetles originate from nanoscale photonic architectures embedded within individual scales. Here, we provide a comparative optical and structural analysis of 57 scale types that reveal how ordered, quasi‐ordered, and disordered 3D networks tune color, saturation, and angular response.

Photonics of Topological Magnetic Textures

open access: yesAdvanced Optical Materials, EarlyView.
Localized noncollinear magetic textures imprint their geometry and topology onto traversing photonic fields endowing them with orbital angular‐momentum, chirality, and magnetoelectric densities. Abstract Topological textures in magnetically ordered materials are an important case studies for fundamental research with promising applications in data ...

Ultra‐Flexible Dual‐Band Organic Photodetectors for Visible and Near‐Infrared Sensing

open access: yesAdvanced Optical Materials, EarlyView.
An ultra‐flexible dual‐band organic photodetector with a total thickness of 5.6 µm for bio‐sensing is developed. It selectively detects visible and near‐infrared light with high sensitivity by switching the voltage. Peripheral oxygen saturation (SpO2) measurement is demonstrated using the device attached to a finger under a single light source by ...

Optically Selective Photomask Based on Field‐Induced Periodic Defect Arrays in Ferroelectric Nematics

open access: yesAdvanced Optical Materials, EarlyView.
Field‐induced periodic defect patterns in the ferroelectric nematic liquid crystal phase act as optically selective photomasks. Created in the liquid crystal cells with bare electrodes, their periodicity is controlled by the applied frequency and cell gap. When used as photomasks, these patterns modulate transmitted light, whose spatial characteristics
