Scaling Relations of Viscous Fingers in Anisotropic Hele-Shaw Cells [PDF]

open access: yes, 2008
Viscous fingers in a channel with surface tension anisotropy are numerically studied. Scaling relations between the tip velocity v, the tip radius and the pressure gradient are investigated for two kinds of boundary conditions of pressure, when v is ...

The power of microRNA regulation—insights into immunity and metabolism

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
MicroRNAs are emerging as crucial regulators at the intersection of metabolism and immunity. This review examines how miRNAs coordinate glucose and lipid metabolism while simultaneously modulating T‐cell development and immune responses. Moreover, it highlights how cutting‐edge artificial intelligence applications can identify miRNA biomarkers ...

Spot‐14 and its paralog Spot‐14R regulate expression of metabolic and thermogenic pathway genes in murine brown and beige adipocytes

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Spot‐14 and Spot‐14R play distinct roles in regulating metabolism in brown and beige adipocytes. While both influence lipid and glucose pathways, Spot‐14 uniquely controls thermogenic gene expression. This dual regulation balances energy storage and heat production, highlighting potential therapeutic targets for obesity and metabolic disorders. Spot 14

Fingers of God

open access: yes, 2008
Very long wavelength universal gravitational waves cannot now produce in clusters of galaxies velocity dispersions greater than that which these systems would possess if they were expanding with the Universe, if the Universe is not younger than $10^{10}$

Dynamic Hand Gesture Classification Based on Radar Micro-Doppler Signatures [PDF]

open access: yes, 2016
Dynamic hand gesture recognition is of great importance for human-computer interaction. In this paper, we present a method to discriminate the four kinds of dynamic hand gestures, snapping fingers, flipping fingers, hand rotation and calling, using a ...

P‐glycoprotein modulates the fluidity gradient of the plasma membrane of multidrug resistant CHO cells

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
To explore the impact of the overexpression of the multidrug‐transporter P‐glycoprotein (ABCB1) on membrane fluidity, we compared the transversal gradient of mobility and microviscosity in plasma membranes of drug‐sensitive Chinese hamster ovary cells (AuxB1) and their multidrug‐resistant derivatives (B30) using the fluorescent n‐(9‐anthroyloxy) fatty ...

A coiled‐coil domain triggers oligomerization of MmpL10, the mycobacterial transporter of trehalose polyphleate precursor

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Most MmpLs transport lipids and glycolipids of the complex mycomembrane of mycobacteria. This study shows that MmpL10 from Mycobacterium smegmatis, the transporter of the trehalose polyphosphate precursor, harbors a coiled‐coil‐like extension. Biochemical and electron microscopy studies demonstrate that the coiled‐coil enables MmpL10 to trimerize.

Rotationally actuated prosthetic helping hand [PDF]

open access: yes, 1991
A prosthetic device has been developed for below-the-elbow amputees. The device consists of a cuff, a stem, a housing, two hook-like fingers, an elastic band for holding the fingers together, and a brace.
