Finger properties in bounded double diffusive finger convection [PDF]

open access: yesPhysics of Fluids vol. 37 number 2 page 027157 (2025)
We analyze experimental data on double diffusive convection in an electrochemical cell in the finger regime. All fingers in the experiments are bounded on at least one end by a solid wall. The properties of these fingers are compared with those of fingers in other experiments which are surrounded by fluid on all sides. The compositional boundary layers

KRAS and GNAS mutations in cell‐free DNA and in circulating epithelial cells in patients with intraductal papillary mucinous neoplasms—an observational pilot study

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
This study demonstrates that KRAS and GNAS mutations are more prevalent in patients with resected intraductal papillary mucinous neoplasms (IPMN) compared to those under clinical surveillance. GNAS mutations significantly differ between the two patient cohorts, indicating that their absence may serve as a potential biomarker to support conservative ...

Evaluation of patient doses for routine digital radiography procedures toward establishing an institutional diagnostic reference levels: A case study in Sri Lanka

open access: yesJournal of Applied Clinical Medical Physics, Volume 23, Issue 12, December 2022., 2022
Abstract The present study was conducted as part of a comprehensive work to establish National Diagnostic Reference Levels (NDRLs) in Sri Lanka for the first time. DRLs can be used as an effective optimization tool for identifying unusually high or low patient doses during X‐ray examinations.

Finger sarcoidosis

open access: yesJournal of the Belgian Society of Radiology, 2011
Background: A 47-year-old Caucasian woman presented with progressive swelling and pain of her left 5th digit over the previous couple of months. She is known to have sarcoidosis for 13 years and developed a painful swollen little finger 9 years ago when it was biopsied and confirmed as sarcoidosis.

Combined spatially resolved metabolomics and spatial transcriptomics reveal the mechanism of RACK1‐mediated fatty acid synthesis

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
The authors analyzed the spatial distributions of gene and metabolite profiles in cervical cancer through spatial transcriptomic and spatially resolved metabolomic techniques. Pivotal genes and metabolites within these cases were then identified and validated.

Area-preserving dynamics of a long slender finger by curvature: a test case for the globally conserved phase ordering [PDF]

open access: yes, 2001
A long and slender finger can serve as a simple ``test bed'' for different phase ordering models. In this work, the globally-conserved, interface-controlled dynamics of a long finger is investigated, analytically and numerically, in two dimensions. An important limit is considered when the finger dynamics are reducible to the area-preserving motion by ...

Circulating tumor DNA (ctDNA) trajectories predict survival in trifluridine/tipiracil‐treated metastatic colorectal cancer patients

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
The authors applied joint/mixed models that predict mortality of trifluridine/tipiracil‐treated metastatic colorectal cancer patients based on circulating tumor DNA (ctDNA) trajectories. Patients at high risk of death could be spared aggressive therapy with the prospect of a higher quality of life in their remaining lifetime, whereas patients with a ...

Hand features extractor using hand contour – a case study

open access: yesAutomatika, 2020
Hand gesture recognition is an important topic in natural user interfaces (NUI). Hand features extraction is the first step for hand gesture recognition. This work proposes a novel real time method for hand features recognition.

Integrative analysis of circulating tumor cells (CTCs) and exosomes from small‐cell lung cancer (SCLC) patients: a comprehensive approach

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
This study simultaneously investigated circulating tumor cells (CTCs) and exosomes from small‐cell lung cancer (SCLC) patients. The elevated expression of JUNB and CXCR4 in CTCs was a poor prognostic factor for SCLC patients, whereas exosomal overexpression of these biomarkers revealed a high discrimination ability of patients from healthy individuals,

Fluctuations and Pinch-Offs Observed in Viscous Fingering [PDF]

open access: yes, 2002
Our experiments on viscous (Saffman-Taylor) fingering in Hele-Shaw channels reveal several phenomena that were not observed in previous experiments. At low flow rates, growing fingers undergo width fluctuations that intermittently narrow the finger as they evolve.
