Characterization of the radiation pattern of antennas using time-domain spherical-multipole and moment expansion

open access: yesJournal of Microwaves, Optoelectronics and Electromagnetic Applications
This paper presents results of a time-domain spherical-multipole near-to-far-field transformation together with a moment expansion applied to antenna radiation patterns.

A Robust Adaptive One‐Sample‐Ahead Preview Super‐Twisting Sliding Mode Controller

open access: yesInternational Journal of Adaptive Control and Signal Processing, EarlyView.
Block Diagram of the Robust Adaptive One‐Sample‐Ahead Preview Super‐Twisting Sliding Mode Controller. ABSTRACT This article introduces a discrete‐time robust adaptive one‐sample‐ahead preview super‐twisting sliding mode controller. A stability analysis of the controller by Lyapunov criteria is developed to demonstrate its robustness in handling both ...

Finite-Difference Time-Domain Simulation for Three-dimensional Polarized Light Imaging

open access: yes, 2016
Three-dimensional Polarized Light Imaging (3D-PLI) is a promising technique to reconstruct the nerve fiber architecture of human post-mortem brains from birefringence measurements of histological brain sections with micrometer resolution.

Thermoreflectance Detection of Point Defects Resulting from Focused Ion Beam Milling

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
Focused ion beam (FIB) milling is a common tool for nanoscale material processing, however irradiation damage, redeposition, and contamination can occur. We use several characterization tools to show FIB‐induced effects beyond 1 mm from the milled area.

Stability and Convergence Analysis of a Domain Decomposition FE/FD Method for Maxwell’s Equations in the Time Domain

open access: yesAlgorithms, 2022
Stability and convergence analyses for the domain decomposition finite element/finite difference (FE/FD) method are presented. The analyses are developed for a semi-discrete finite element scheme for time-dependent Maxwell’s equations.

A Workflow to Accelerate Microstructure‐Sensitive Fatigue Life Predictions

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
This study introduces a workflow to accelerate predictions of microstructure‐sensitive fatigue life. Results from frameworks with varying levels of simplification are benchmarked against published reference results. The analysis reveals a trade‐off between accuracy and model complexity, offering researchers a practical guide for selecting the optimal ...

Efficient ferromagnetic core impedance model with application to finite-difference time-domain simulation

open access: yesPhysical Review Special Topics. Accelerators and Beams, 2012
A frequency-dependent impedance model for laminated ferromagnetic cores is presented and analyzed. The model assumes a multiple-winding ferromagnetic induction core composed of multiple thin layers with linear material response.

Investigation of Plasmonic Properties of a Rhodium Nanoshell Based Optical Nanomaterial

open access: yesMedžiagotyra, 2022
In noble metals, surface plasmons may be induced by incident light, resulting in good plasmonic properties that can be widely utilized. In this work, an optical nanomaterial based on a spherical nanoshell structure consisting of rhodium and dielectric is

Characterization of Nitinol Produced by Laser Powder Bed Fusion for Mechanical Metamaterial Applications

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
Stabilization of L‐PBF Ni50.7Ti49.3 under low‐cycle loading was investigated. Recoverable strain after cycling was dependent on the amount of applied load. Recovery ratio was 53.4% and 35.1% at intermediate and high load, respectively. The maximum total strain reached 10.3% at a high load of 1200 MPa.
