Finite-Element Modelling of Crack Sealant Flexible Pavement

open access: yesThe Baltic Journal of Road and Bridge Engineering, 2007
This paper documents the use of finite element analyses techniques to determine the failure mechanism in a crack sealant pavement under moving loads. The flexible pavement that is modelled is on a medium-strength subgrade.

Gallium Microalloying in Bi–Sn Solders: Interfacial Phase Formation, Wettability, and Long‐Term Shear Reliability Under Isothermal Aging

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
Gallium microalloying redirects interfacial reactions in low‐temperature Bi–Sn solders from Cu–Sn toward Cu–Ga intermetallic formation. The resulting Cu–Ga layer suppresses intermetallic growth during thermal aging, alters fracture pathways, and improves interfacial stability.

Investigating the Low‐Temperature Phase Stability of the Binary Ta–W System

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
Atomistic simulations show that the binary Ta–W system forms ordered intermetallic phases, B2‐TaW and D03‐TaW3, as 0 K ground states. Configurational entropy, however, lowers the free energy of the disordered bcc solid solution, which becomes the stable phase above about 400 K.

Elastic–Plastic Modeling and Experimental Characterization of Granular Jamming Actuators

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
Granular jamming enables rapid switching between soft and rigid mechanical states. Here, a reduced‐order elastic‐perfectly‐plastic beam framework captures pressure‐dependent loading, unloading, residual deformation, and hysteresis in jammed beams, while matching three‐point bending experiments across materials and geometries. The framework links design

Finite Element Modelling and Simulation of Tunnel Gates of Dam Structures in ABAQUS Using Reduced-Integrated 8-Node Hexahedral Solid-Shell Element

open access: yesModelling and Simulation in Engineering
Tunnel gates used for water regulation are very important and critical parts of dam safety. This is because they are exposed to the hydrostatic pressure of the total height of the water in the reservoir.

Three-dimensional Finite Element Modelling of the Cylindrical Specimen Upsetting

open access: yesMATEC Web of Conferences, 2018
Friction has a substantial influence on the metal forming at upsetting of cylindrical aluminum specimens. The finite element method is often used to investigate this problem.

Impact of the Process Atmosphere During Hot Isostatic Pressing on the Near‐Surface Composition of an Additively Manufactured Austenitic High‐Interstitial Steel

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
A high interstital austenitic steel is additively manufactured and postdensified by HIP to eliminate gas porosity. Thereby, the loss of N and Mn in Ar HIP atmosphere is investigated. Further, HIP using N2 atmosphere is investigated which led to excessive nitride formation.
