An optimal nonconforming finite element method for the Stokes equations [PDF]

open access: yesarXiv, 2018
In this paper, we propose and develop an optimal nonconforming finite element method for the Stokes equations approximated by the Crouzix-Raviart element for velocity and the continuous linear element for pressure. Previous result in using the stabilization method for this finite element pair is improved and then proven to be stable.

Profilometry‐Based Indentation Plastometry Testing of Tungsten at High Temperature

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
Profilometry‐based indentation plastometry (PIP) allows extraction of stress‐strain curves from indent profiles. Tungsten is of industrial interest but is brittle at room temperature. It does plastically deform at higher temperatures. Excellent agreement is obtained between the two techniques in this regime, but PIP also gives plasticity ...

Finite element analysis of FRP-strengthened RC beams [PDF]

open access: yesSongklanakarin Journal of Science and Technology (SJST), 2004
This paper presents a non-linear finite element analysis of reinforced concrete beam strengthened with externally bonded FRP plates. The finite element modeling of FRP-strengthened beams is demonstrated. Concrete and reinforcing bars are modeled together

Three dimensional finite-element analysis of finite-thickness fracture specimens [PDF]

open access: yes
The stress-intensity factors for most of the commonly used fracture specimens (center-crack tension, single and double edge-crack tension, and compact), those that have a through-the-thickness crack, were calculated using a three dimensional finite ...

On the Uniqueness of Solution of Magnetostatic Vector‐potential Problems by Three‐dimensional Finite‐element Methods [PDF]

open access: yes, 1982
In this paper, particular attention is paid to the impact of finite‐element approximation on uniqueness and to approximations implicit in finite element formulations from the uniqueness requirements standpoint.

Finite Element Analysis Of Crankcase

open access: yes, 2018
In an internal combustion engine of the reciprocating type the crankcase is housing for crankshaft. Crankcase is main building block of engine. The enclosure form the large cavity in the engine and it is locate below cylinder or cylinders head which in multi cylinder engine is usually integrated into one or more cylinder block.

From Nature to Engineering: Mortar Volume and Interfacial Mechanics in Bioinspired Ceramics

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
Inspired by natural armors like nacre, this study explores how varying the volume fraction of the soft mortar layer impacts the interfacial strength and toughness of bioinspired ceramics. Experimental and computational analysis reveals that higher mortar volumes increase energy dissipation but reduce interfacial stiffness, offering insights for ...

Finite Element Analysis of Fluid-Conveying Timoshenko Pipes

open access: yesShock and Vibration, 1995
A general finite element formulation using cubic Hermitian interpolation for dynamic analysis of pipes conveying fluid is presented. Both the effects of shearing deformations and rotary inertia are considered.
