Hydrogel‐Based Capacitive Sensor Model for Ammonium Monitoring in Aquaculture

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
Traditional techniques for monitoring aquaculture water quality, particularly ammonium levels, harm fish. This work presents a novel capacitive sensor with an ionic hydrogel transducer to monitor ammonium concentration in real time based on the ammonium‐induced hydrogel dissociation and osmotic pressure. Monitoring aquaculture water quality, especially

ASPECTS IN BIOMATERIALS SELECTION FOR REMOVABLE DENTURES – MARKER OF BIOLOGICAL INTEGRATION

open access: yesRomanian Journal of Oral Rehabilitation, 2013
The number of denture wearers is increasing as the number of elderly people continually growing, and polymethyl methacrylate (PMMA) is still the most frequently used material in denture base fabrication.

Finite Element Convergence for the Joule Heating Problem with Mixed Boundary Conditions [PDF]

open access: yes, 2012
We prove strong convergence of conforming finite element approximations to the stationary Joule heating problem with mixed boundary conditions on Lipschitz domains in three spatial dimensions.

Finite‐element analysis of wrinkling membranes [PDF]

open access: yesCommunications in Applied Numerical Methods, 1991
AbstractA theoretical model for wrinkling membranes is used to develop a membrane element. Instead of deriving explicit expressions for the nodal forces and the stiffness matrix, the equivalent nodal forces are obtained by numerically simulating the virtual change of the element internal energy; the stiffness matrix follows from numerical ...

Soft‐Layered Composites with Wrinkling‐Activated Multi‐Linear Elastic Behavior, Stress Mitigation, and Enhanced Strain Energy Storage

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
In this study, exciting new bi‐/multi‐linear elastic behavior of soft elastic composites that accompany the activation of wrinkling in the embedded interfacial layers is analyzed. The new features and performance of these composite materials, including dramatic enhancements in energy storage, can be tailored by the concentration of interfacial layers ...

Finite element analysis of human femur bone

open access: yesInternational Journal of Multiphysics, 2016
An effort is made to analyse the stresses experienced by the human femur. In order to achieve these results a CAD model was developed by using the 3-D scanning of generic human femur for an individual of 70 kg weight (approx. averaged adult weight).

Bridging Nature and Technology: A Perspective on Role of Machine Learning in Bioinspired Ceramics

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
Machine learning (ML) is revolutionizing the development of bioinspired ceramics. This article investigates how ML can be used to design new ceramic materials with exceptional performance, inspired by the structures found in nature. The research highlights how ML can predict material properties, optimize designs, and create advanced models to unlock a ...

Development and Validation of a One‐Dimensional Finite Difference Simulation Scheme for Polymer Laser Powder Bed Fusion with Application to the Effect of the Inter Layer Time

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
The study presents an efficient simulation approach for the polymer laser powder bed fusion process polymers process, validated with polyamide 12, polyamide 6, and polyetherketoneketone. It shows that inter layer time affects part density, with 90s yielding dense parts.

A simple finite element method for Reissner--Mindlin plate equations using the Crouzeix-Raviart element and the standard linear finite element [PDF]

open access: yesarXiv, 2014
We present a simple finite element method for the discretization of Reissner--Mindlin plate equations. The finite element method is based on using the nonconforming Crouzeix-Raviart finite element space for the transverse displacement, and the standard linear finite element space for the rotation of the transverse normal vector.

A Case‐Based Reasoning Approach to Model Manufacturing Constraints for Impact Extrusion

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
A hybrid modeling approach is presented that combines constraint‐based process modeling and case‐based reasoning. The model formalizes manufacturing constraints and integrates simulation data to model complex manufacturing processes. The approach supports manufacturability analysis during product design through an adaptive modeling environment.
