Compatible finite element methods for numerical weather prediction [PDF]
This article takes the form of a tutorial on the use of a particular class of mixed finite element methods, which can be thought of as the finite element extension of the C-grid staggered finite difference method.

We present domain decomposition finite element/finite difference method for the solution of hyperbolic equation. The domain decomposition is performed such that finite elements and finite differences are used in different subdomains of the computational ...

A simple, cleanroom‐free method produces flexible mini‐coils using automated blade cutting. The process is fast, low‐cost, and supports diverse materials. The coils show strong durability and performance under repeated bending. Demonstrated use in resistor‐inductor filters and magnetic nanoparticle control proves their adaptability.

Use of system identification techniques for improving airframe finite element models using test data [PDF]
A method for using system identification techniques to improve airframe finite element models using test data was developed and demonstrated. The method uses linear sensitivity matrices to relate changes in selected physical parameters to changes in the ...

A finite element method for exterior interface problems
A procedure is given for the approximate solution of a class of two-dimensional diffraction problems. Here the usual inner boundary conditions are replaced by an inner region together with interface conditions.

Hybridized CutFEM for Elliptic Interface Problems [PDF]
We design and analyze a hybridized cut finite element method for elliptic interface problems. In this method very general meshes can be coupled over internal unfitted interfaces, through a skeletal variable, using a Nitsche type approach.

In this work, the grain boundary diffusion process is optimized to maximize heavy rare earth utilization by strategic magnetic hardening of areas in the magnet such as corners or edges that are highly susceptible to demagnetization, as demonstrated by finite element magnetostatics simulation on an internal permanent magnet, synchronous traction motor ...

Approximation in the finite element method
The rate of convergence of the finite element method depends on the order to which the solutionu can be approximated by the trial space of piecewise polynomials. We attempt to unify the many published estimates, by proving that if the trial space is complete through polynomials of degreek?1, then it contains a functionv h such that |u?v h | s ?ch k?s|u|

Smoothed Finite Element Method [PDF]
In this paper, the smoothed finite element method (SFEM) is proposed for 2D elastic problems by incorporation of the cell-wise strain smoothing operation into the conventional finite elements.
