Updating Rotor-Bearing Finite Element Models

Volume 1B: 16th Biennial Conference on Mechanical Vibration and Noise, 1997
Abstract In this paper, the possibility of updating the finite element model of a rotor-bearing system by estimating the bearing stiffness and damping coefficients from a few measured Frequency Response Functions using a Genetic Algorithm is investigated. The issues of identifiability and parameters estimation errors, computational costs

Load Updating for Finite Element Models

AIAA Journal, 2003
A method for reducing the differences between experimental testing or real-world events and their finite element counterparts is presented. In this method system identification or finite element model updating are not performed; instead, the loads on the finite element model that would create equivaient displacements or strains are identified by ...

Updating large finite element models in structural dynamics

AIAA Journal, 1998
In model updating problems, one tries to find design variable values affecting the input to a numerical or analytical model, such that the model output is well correlated to some target response or experimental data. Because most proposed solution techniques are iterative or require large matrices to be inverted and multiplied, severe obstacles arise ...

On the use of transmissibility measurements for finite element model updating

Journal of Sound and Vibration, 2007
Conventional finite element updating techniques make use of measured frequency response functions and modal parameter estimates to update the FE model parameters. This paper presents a new technique to update the FE model from output-only transmissibility measurements assuming the location of the excitation force is known.

Finite Element Model Reduction and Model Updating of structures for Control

IFAC Proceedings Volumes, 2014
Estimation and control of unmeasurable performance variables in complex large-scale systems is an important issue in systems and control. The preferred solution to this problem is to have a relatively low-order and accurate standard plant model which can be used for control purposes. For this purpose, a two-step procedure is proposed. The first step is

Bayesian Finite Element Model Updating

2019
In this chapter, the implementation of the reduced-order models within Bayesian finite element model updating is explored. The Bayesian framework for model parameter estimation, model selection, and robust predictions of output quantities of interest is first presented. Bayesian asymptotic approximations and sampling algorithms are then outlined.

Load Updating for Nonlinear Finite Element Models

45th AIAA/ASME/ASCE/AHS/ASC Structures, Structural Dynamics & Materials Conference, 2004
A measurement-based load updating method for finite element models subjected to static loads was studied using a four-noded curved beam element for large displacements/rotations and a gradient-based variable metric optimizer. Finite element analysis was used to numerically calculate the geometrically linear and nonlinear responses and their ...
