Finite Element Simulation of Light Propagation in Non-Periodic Mask Patterns

open access: yes, 2008
Rigorous electromagnetic field simulations are an essential part for scatterometry and mask pattern design. Today mainly periodic structures are considered in simulations.

Hybrid Auxetic Architectures: Integrating Curvature‐Driven Design for Enhanced Mechanical Tunability and Structural Performance

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
Curvature‐tuned auxetic lattices are designed, fabricated, and mechanically characterized to reveal how geometric curvature governs stretchability, stress redistribution, and Poisson's ratio evolution. Photoelastic experiments visualize stress pathways, while hyperelastic simulations quantify deformation mechanics.

The elastic-plastic properties of an anti-icing coating on an aluminum alloy: Experimental and numerical approach

open access: yesJournal of the Mechanical Behavior of Materials, 2021
In this paper, an attempt is made to describe the method that combines the results obtained from nanoindentation experiment with finite element simulation to determine or establish the elastic-plastic properties of a super-hydrophobic anti-icing coating.

Efficient periodic band diagram computation using a finite element method, Arnoldi eigensolver and sparse linear system solver

open access: yes, 2013
We present here a Finite Element Method devoted to the simulation of 3D periodic structures of arbitrary geometry. The numerical method based on ARPACK and PARDISO libraries, is discussed with the aim of extracting the eigenmodes of periodical structures

Finite element simulation of piezoelectric vibrator gyroscopes [PDF]

open access: yes, 1996
A finite element approach to the simulation of piezoelectric vibrator gyroscopes is presented for characteristic prediction. The formulation is given including the effect of Coriolis force due to rotation for a piezoelectric thin plate, which is ...

Multimodal Mechanical Testing of Additively Manufactured Ti6Al4V Lattice Structures: Compression, Bending, and Fatigue

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
In this experimental study, the mechanical properties of additively manufactured Ti‐6Al‐4V lattice structures of different geometries are characterized using compression, four point bending and fatigue testing. While TPMS designs show superior fatigue resistance, SplitP and Honeycomb lattice structures combine high stiffness and strength. The resulting

ArbiLoMod, a Simulation Technique Designed for Arbitrary Local Modifications

open access: yes, 2016
Engineers manually optimizing a structure using Finite Element based simulation software often employ an iterative approach where in each iteration they change the structure slightly and resimulate.

Finite element and finite volume-element simulation of pseudo-ECGs and cardiac alternans [PDF]

open access: yes, 2014
In this paper, we are interested in the spatio-temporal dynamics of the transmembrane potential in paced isotropic and anisotropic cardiac tissues. In particular, we observe a specific precursor of cardiac arrhythmias that is the presence of alternans in

Design and Prototyping of Topology‐Optimized, Additively Manufactured Lightweight Components for Space Robotic Systems: A Case Study

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
The results demonstrate a simulation‐driven workflow that applies LSB topology optimization with additive manufacturing constraints to mission‐specific load cases, integrating European Cooperation for Space Standardization compliant verification and manufacturability to develop structurally efficient rover suspension components.
