Review of Thermally Activated Twisted Coiled Polymer Actuators: A Materials Science Perspective

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
Thermally activated twisted and coiled polymer actuators (TCPAs) combine lightweight design, large deformation, and scalable fabrication for soft robotic and wearable applications. This review connects polymer structure, processing history, helix geometry, and thermomechanical characterization to actuator performance, highlighting current challenges in

Supervised learning approach to parametric computer-aided design geometry repair

open access: yes, 2006
Multidisciplinary optimization systems rely increasingly on parametric CAD engines to supply the geometries required by their analysis components. Such parametric geometry models usually result from an uneasy compromise between high flexibility, that is,

Interface Effects in Ultrathin Silicon on Insulator Films

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
This work establishes a systematic framework to discriminate how bulk and interface phenomena affect charge transport in ultrathin P‐doped silicon‐on‐insulator (SOI) films. For Si films below 15 nm, electrical characterization demonstrates that interface states drive charge transport, shifting the metal‐insulator transition (MIT) critical dopant ...

Chevalley groups and finite geometry [PDF]

open access: yes, 2018
© 2018 Dr. Jon XuThis thesis explores the possible use of Schubert cells, Schubert varieties and flag varieties in finite geometry, particularly in regard to the question of these objects might be a source of understanding of ovoids or provide new ...

Mesoscale Domain Evolution Mechanism during Alternating Current (AC) Poling of Relaxor Ferroelectrics

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
Ferroelectric domain variants that are energetically equivalent are expected to remain preserved during polarization reversal. However, phase‐field simulations reveal that inclined domain walls in relaxor ferroelectrics can undergo irreversible elimination during alternating current poling through a proximity effect driven by long‐range elastic ...

Topics in orbifold geometry and Gorenstein homogeneous spaces [PDF]

open access: yes
I study two problems from different domains. The first problem is related to orbifold geometry and the second to Gorenstein homogeneous spaces. Though two different topics, they share a common theme: the Gorenstein property.

Structure‐Guided Dynamical Mechanics in Bioinspired Double Twisted Laminated Thin Films

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
This work explores a dynamic mechanistic study of crack propagation and puncture testing via real‐time monitoring of crack initiation, propagation, and termination through nature‐inspired single and double twisted architectures fabricated from cellulose nanocrystals.

Submicron Metasurface Reconfigured Multiband Smart Windows

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
This work presents a submicron metasurface reconfigured multiband thermochromic smart window. By integrating subwavelength nanostructures into a Fabry−Perot resonator configuration, it mitigates conventional trade‐offs to simultaneously deliver high luminous transmittance and robust solar heating and radiative cooling modulation capabilities ...

Standardized Effect Measures Informing Next‐Generation Strategies for Mechanical Stimulation in Cartilage Tissue Engineering

open access: yesAdvanced Healthcare Materials, EarlyView.
This systematic review quantitatively compares conventional mechanical stimulation strategies in cartilage tissue engineering across 85 heterogeneous in vitro studies. Applying standardized effect measures, meta‐analysis reveals that combined compression and shear loading optimally promotes cartilage matrix development.

Finite \(C_ n\) geometries: A survey

open access: yes, 1990
This paper is an excellent survey of about everything what is known concerning the classification of residual connected Buekenhout-Tits geometries with Buekenhout diagram \(C_ n\). A complete classification of such geometries is hopeless, but with some additional hypotheses, large subclasses can be classified.
