On groups of finite Prüfer rank II

open access: yesRendiconti del Seminario Matematico della Università di Padova, 2023
Let G be a group of finite (Prüfer) rank and \pi any finite set of primes. We prove, in particular, that G

Dynamic Precipitation during High‐Pressure Torsion of a Magnesium–Manganese Alloy

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
An ultrafine‐grained alloy is produced by high‐pressure torsion of solutionized Mg–1.35 wt% Mn. Precipitation of nanometer‐scale Mn particles during deformation provides pinning sites. This prevents the formation of a bimodal grain structure and results in a finer grain size than for pure Mg.

A characterization of higher rank symmetric spaces via bounded cohomology

open access: yes, 2008
Let $M$ be complete nonpositively curved Riemannian manifold of finite volume whose fundamental group $\Gamma$ does not contain a finite index subgroup which is a product of infinite groups.

Characterization of Defect Distribution in an Additively Manufactured AlSi10Mg as a Function of Processing Parameters and Correlations with Extreme Value Statistics

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
Predicting extreme defects in additive manufacturing remains a key challenge limiting its structural reliability. This study proposes a statistical framework that integrates Extreme Value Theory with advanced process indicators to explore defect–process relationships and improve the estimation of critical defect sizes. The approach provides a basis for

Spectral Rank of Maximal Finite-Rank Elements in Banach Jordan Algebras

open access: yesExtracta Mathematicae, 2016
We give a new proof to a spectral characterisation of the spectral rank established by Aupetit by replacing his deep analytic arguments by the new characterisation of the connected component of the group of invertible elements obtained by O. Loos.

Finite-rank intermediate Hankel operators on the Bergman space

open access: yesInternational Journal of Mathematics and Mathematical Sciences, 2001
Let L2=L2(D,r dr dθ/π) be the Lebesgue space on the open unit disc and let La2=L2∩ℋol(D) be the Bergman space. Let P be the orthogonal projection of L2 onto La2 and let Q be the orthogonal projection onto L¯a,02={g∈L2;g¯∈La2,   g(0)=0}. Then I−P≥Q.

Combinatorial properties of the enhanced principal rank characteristic sequence over finite fields

open access: yesSpecial Matrices, 2021
The enhanced principal rank characteristic sequence (epr-sequence) of a symmetric matrix B ∈ 𝔽n×n is defined as ℓ1ℓ2· · · ℓn, where ℓj ∈ {A, S, N} according to whether all, some but not all, or none of the principal minors of order j of B are nonzero ...

Rank weight hierarchy of some classes of cyclic codes

open access: yes, 2014
We study the rank weight hierarchy, thus in particular the rank metric, of cyclic codes over the finite field $\mathbb F_{q^m}$, $q$ a prime power, $m \geq 2$.

On the Rank and Periodic Rank of Finite Dynamical Systems [PDF]

open access: yesThe Electronic Journal of Combinatorics, 2018
A finite dynamical system is a function $f : A^n \to A^n$ where $A$ is a finite alphabet, used to model a network of interacting entities. The main feature of a finite dynamical system is its interaction graph, which indicates which local functions depend on which variables; the interaction graph is a qualitative representation of the interactions ...

Understanding the Effect of Resistance Temperature Detector Temperature Controllers on Microstructural Alignment in Magnetic Freeze Casting

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
The effect of temperature controllers that are commonly used in freeze‐casting is investigated in this work. Temperature controllers are observed to generate a voltage in the slurry. Microstructural alignment and ultimate compressive strength data show this voltage to interfere with the ability to align the microstructure using magnetic fields ...
